he tried doing something new on his art, it was a bet with one of his friend, well i'm not 100% what exactly the bet was but usually he likes doing cute-looking characters :p so this is a little different in that way too :3
edit : ah yes that's what the challenge was : doing a starfox character without boots (he loves paws as you might have noticed xD) and it was my friend's fav character, falco, so... he did that
