A ruddy-hued gryphon surveys his territory somewhere out in the western desert.
The JPEG compression totally ATE the rich tones of this scan. The original's much brighter, with deeper reds throughout. (The sunset still sucks, though. I just couldn't pull off the colors I was going for with traditional media, and refused to digitally tweak the background.)
Doodled back in 2006 (shortly after returning from a trip to the Grand Canyon and a drive through the surrounding desert), inked in 2007, and colored yesterday on a whim that may or may not have had anything to do with an acute case of too many wolves syndrome. ^_^;
Micron inks and Prismacolor markers/pencils on pulpy drawing paper. I had all sorts of fun trying to balance light sources and shadows and yet still make him pop against the background....with mixed results. Still, he's spiffy. :)
