Endless Realms bestiary - Aethir Cannon
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
The ER art director's take on a lantern archon. They're surrounded by bands of fluid metal that allow them to recombine with others of their kind into different formations to create more powerful cannons.

Well this brings up a set of questions. Though I always seem to come up with random questions when I get to reply to your wonderful art.
Question the First: Since it's a caccon that has the power to combine with others, would it be possible to to make clothing and or armor of it.
It looks really pretty, great work

Well this is what I get for being up at 5:17 in the morning. Thinking you said cocoons instead of cannons. xD So then would say an elemental mage be able to disable this with ease thanks to controlling the liquid metal? Blowing it away with air, Freezing it with ice, evaporating it with fire. etc

*chuckles* I don't think I know the answer to any of those, since I don't write the actual mechanics of the creature!
For making clothing/armour out of it, it'd probably be up to the DM's discretion. They're actually sentient creatures, angelic beings, so if they wanted to help you in this fashion (excuse the pun XD), they probably could be "worn" :) But assuming they have better things to do, and wouldn't volunteer, and you tried to "harvest" them instead, they probably wouldn't function once you killed them :b But the crystal core might have some special properties, I'd bet!
As for the elemental weaknesses, that depends entirely on whether or not the team decides to give them elemental weaknesses or not! I think it could make sense - I could see a DM "writing" it in if he felt the players were clever and had a good idea, and disagreed with the team not putting any in. But I could also see them not having elemental weaknesses; being celestial magical beings might put them somehow "above" or "beyond" normal elemental "rules" :b

Is it the fluid metal or the entire archon that could merge together? Could the central parts of the archons touch each other if the fluid metal just does the merging? They remind me of atoms, with the central part replicating the protons and neutrons and the fluid bands being the electrons.
