In the time during the Black Plague outbreak, Plague Doctors thought the Black Plague could be cured with leeches... although, nearly everything could be "cured" in the Middle Ages using leeches... or fox oil, or magic, or herbs, or any other random crap.
And thus... LEECHES.

A strangely humongous leech no less (and yeah, leech is stupidly large and perspective on the hand are warped to make the effect even more weird.)
