This is beautiful. A little fractured in its structure, maybe (that's just an intuitive thing; I am sleepy and not coherent in either analysis or exposition, so quite likely you should ignore me). But beautiful.

I like how this powers through without the need to explain things. Describing a sentient's life in so few pages doesn't allow for consideration or questions, yet you connect the events with a seamless narration. Letting the reader fill in any blanks as wanted lets them continue without getting hung up on unimportant points. Engaging and thought provoking; a perfect combination.

Thank you! It was originally a much longer story, but it didn't quite work, so I ended up keeping only the elements I really liked: the characters and a couple of key events.

Oh dear...that was absolutely wonderful! That ending just had me grinning to from ear to ear, eyes getting a little wet on me, even!
