Cigar Review of the Week: AF Hemingway Masterpiece Maduro
Hey guys, that time again.
This time is for something rare that we got into
the shop around the holidays, so I got my paws on one.
AF Hemingway Masterpiece Maduro:
Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic:
Pre-Light/Construction:
This was big. I mean big in size for a perfecto. 9 inches long only told me that
this was a rare gem. The wrapper for a connecticut broadleaf, showed alot of age with
it's rough exterior. Broad but slightly oily and firm to the touch. Holding this giant just felt right in my hand.
Couldn't wait to light her up.
The Burn Part 1:
I had no problem with the first few puffs passed the tip from some perfectos I had. Sweet and natural tobacco flavor were the first 2 flavors to come into play, and it was very vibrant. Surprisingly no pepper at this point of the first draw.It was like having a nicely freshed brewed cup of joe handed to me right when I woke up. The vibrant notes eventually started to settle down when the usual spice came into play at the near end of the first 3rd. IT was almost like a white pepper. Blended real nicely with the natural tobacco note. Body is medium.
The Burn Part 2:
With the pleasantries of the first 3rd, the 2nd continues to be polite with it's changes to come. The sweet note started to change into a more zesty flavor of cinnamon and chocolate giving it a more subtle yet spunky aroma to come afterwords from the exhale. The natural tobacco and white pepper spice remained in check at this point until the pepper picked up a bit. This was the point where the body has begun to show it's true colors. Body is in between medium to full.
The Burn Final:
The final 3rd has begun to build up in strength and it was really getting to my head a bit. The flavors have pretty much stayed the same until the only thing changed was the cinnamon and chocolate evolved into more of a mocha note ending the last few puffs cool until the proper burial in the ashtray.
Verdict:
For the reasons of always getting a rare piece especially around the holidays, I'm a sucker for the good stuff, and this was one of them. It's mainly a medium to moderate body stick for the price itself. It may look steep in price, but it's no shortcoming for what this stick has to offer. It's a pleasing addition to the review month. If you happen to find this giant, give it a try. :D
