The X Tornado is a experimental VF designed and built by Miles(Tails) prower. Using the U.N's VF-1 Valkyrie as a basis, Miles implemented many experimental technologies into the Tornado's airframe to improve the craft's hull integrity when traveling at sub sonic speeds. Originally developed as a personal stunt plane the X tornado was converted into a Full equipped fighter to aid in the war against the Zentraidi, and was the personal variable fighter of Sonic the hedgehog during space war 1.

No,The YF-19 design(X Tornado) will remain a one of a kind several years after the war, however it's design is later revisited for development of the VF-19. In MC their isn't a supernova project per say but the YF-21 is one of the experimental fighters developed during the post war period as a special ops fighter.
One of the questions that always comes to mind when linking Sonic to a Robot/Mecha partner is how does it work with his "need for speed"?!
But when you compare Air Speed to Ground Speed, heh, can you really think of a more fitting combo?!
