I Was Lost Without You for Validuz (Art by Lapres!)
ORIGINAL ART BY:

A gift animation for
! First time playing around with sockpuppet tweening in Spine. I've got a lot to learn if I plan on doing any more of this, but it was still a super fun project, and I'm happy with how it turned out! :3

There might be, somewhere, but it's kinda broken up all over the place.
The snow and fire are fairly simple particle effect systems I wrote myself; happy to share the code if you want.
The aurora is just a sequence of ~20ish images with a Screen filter that pop in and out over time.
The shooting star is basically just a single particle that I throw on a randomized delay timer.
The trees and branches are hardcoded animations done in Flash. I basically just shear up, shear down, then use easing to smooth it back and forth.
The parallax is just... well, a parallax.
And the characters were done in Spine, then exported as a PNG sequence. I would have just imported the animation straight into Flash, but the particle systems were already really eating through CPU time (because, once again, I'm using flash the dumb way, instead of using Starling/Stage3D rendering), so I figured it would be a little better for performance if I just used a PNG sequence, and I had plenty of filesize to work with.

This turned out great! The ambient effects are better then what I could have achieved. I particularly like the little panning 3D effect that can occur from moving your mouse around.
For the characters themselves, I really like the ear flick/curve which is a nice attention to detail there. The only real downside is the characters remain mostly static, but it can't really be helped due to the pose. Overall fantastic work!

I happen to agree, i think if they were just bouncing around it would kill the whole context of the scene, they are relaxing in the lounge and he is petting her head, afaik most people in this situation don't bounce around, things are pretty static. so imo this is a really well balanced and true to life animation.
Given the things that happened I don't feel that you should comment on anything related to the character in animation unless it's some kind of positive apology. I may not have the right to stop you from commenting or controlling anyone's page but I'm sure I speak for more than just myself when I express my opinion for this matter.
...but they're not static? She's breathing. He's nodding. That ear flick. There's a lot going on if you pay attention. It's very peaceful and appropriate. The subtle ambience is what's important here. It feels like they're unwinding together after a wonderful evening out. Maybe they shared a bottle of wine. Maybe he splurged on the ribeye and desserts.
If they were moving around any more than they already are, it would completely change the feel of the image into something more akin to two drunks getting tazered and flopping around on the couch and floor.

Thanks! The environment stuff is probably my favorite part of the piece, just because it was the only stuff I was able to do programmatically, which really is the kind of animation I enjoy most.
I get what you mean about the static characters. You're absolutely right about the pose, but I still normally make sure there aren't any body parts or elements that don't have at least a *little* bit of movement, just so they feel alive. I missed several here, mostly because I was struggling with mesh subdivison. If I do more of this later, though, I've definitely learned a few things I can do to handle it better.

What are the chances that you are going to get Dragoneer to clean this all up and silence everyone, 1.21 JiggleBones? It's good to see your attitude come back and sting you in the ass ever since your behavior on e621. You cannot silence everyone to hide your extravagant ego and arrogance.
Eat some humble pie, it's good for you.

This comment just sounds like a babyass who can't deal with any of the backlash he got from totally shafting another person and then shitting on someone Else's hard work, such a class act! I believe the reason things are "static" in this animation is because there isn't ball slapping sex going on or some weird camera effect that causes motion sickness, that's not typically how tender romantic scenes go.
Go fuck yourself Jason.
YOU make ALL character static, lifeless and emotionless when you "animate" them fucking.
You can't draw for shit, you can't even animate to make something fappable... AND you're asking for hundreds of dollars for generic shit?!
fek managed to make a static image even more living and cute with simple animation... and all that for free!
Do you see why people dislike you, Jason?

Not particularly, but that's mostly because it is, admittedly, a pretty unrefined/unpolished piece. There's a lot more that I should have done (generally, I try not to have a single element that doesn't have at least *some* movement / sign of life going on), but I pretty much just did the essentials, here. The hardest part was just isolating pieces because I was working from a flat image.
;___; This is amazing!!!! I've just seen this and am in awe! I love that ear flick!
For whatever negative comments there have been, even though I drew this, you did them justice. They weren't meant to be moving around, or doing any actions at all. You totally added to the effect with the ear flick as that is all really that was supposed to be happening between the two.. just a serene quiet moment between two people.
Beautifully done, I'm honoured. =)

this is such a wonderful piece. i love everything about it from the fire crackling to the smooth transition of the flopped ear. along with the general ambient and gentle tone of this it's so comforting as well as satisfying to watch. i have dabbled in animation lightly but seeing this kinda makes wan to get more into it because you can still create something amazing even if its simple.
WHUO. LEE. FYUUK. THIS... This is just spectacular!
He's stroking like he's a Bond villain, and yet it's still so sweet!
