I haven't had a pet since I was like 12, but this one particular crow always hung around the rooftop garden of my old place, and any time I went up there he'd be sitting on this little wooden beam. I named him Russell (because of course I did) and took this picture of him a few years back. Russell was almost like a cat in bird-form: lazy, incredibly specific about his sunbathing habits, and could not give less of a fuck about anything else. Good times.
New poem coming this weekend, specifically one I've been working on for over a year now. Looking forward to finally posting it here.
This picture and your soul belong to me. Russell don't belong to nobody but Russell.

I hate to be that guy, but unless you live in Australia, he's most definitely a jackdaw! Prettymuch every other crow and raven that lives outside of Australia has dark irises, except for one kind that's red I think? Even then, though his colour's kind of faint, he's got the typical jackdaw markings
I stand corrected. English isn't my native language, and jackdaws are simply referred to as crows 'round these parts (at least in the common vernacular) because we don't have many of the other corvids up in my neck of the woods, so once I'd made sure he wasn't a rook or a raven I just leaped straight at the conclusion of him being a crow.
You are, however, absolutely right,: Russell is definitely a jackdaw. Be sure not to tell him, though: I'm pretty sure he uses that Russell Crow line to pick up chicks
