Both princesses stood proudly above their decorative podiums in the courtyard, ponies from all over the nation gathering around to bask in their majesty, to ask questions, or to just pilgrimage to the capital. Hundreds of unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies lept at the sight of dear princess Celestia. Hooves raised and voices yelled for her attention, while luna's half of the courtyard was as barren and quiet as a cemetery. But not a single pony came her way.
As the hours of the day waxed, and the sun drooped further into the sky, Luna slowly sank into her chair, hiding herself in the shadow. Questions continuously shot towards her sister, until it the sun had finally begun to set. "Alright alright my ponies, the day has come to an end. Thank you so much for coming to canterlot today." Celestia smiled, her presence just as bright as her sun. The crowd seemed saddened at the end of their day, as if they didn't want to go home; instead just wanting to enjoy the day more.
Luna watched in dismay, as Celestia shrugged off the thank yous and blessings, till she couldn't take it anymore. A few tears started to trickle down her cheeks, as she silently flew back to her castle. As she landed, and walked into the first room of the tower, she started to weakly scuff at the previous hoof marks she had dug into the floor of her room, from several what, days? Weeks? She had lost her sense of time by watching equestria come and go as a distant flicker that she held no part of. "Why.. why would they do this to me.." as more tears streaked her face, she scuffed harder at her old prints, falling to the surface of the castles dead rock floor, soaking it in her tears. "They do not love my beautiful night! They are happy in sister's sun, but ignore us and our night! Why do they shun our gift, we strive yo make so beautiful!"
The tears streaming down her face slowed, but didn't stop, as Celestia landed on the balcony of the castle; her elegant wings spread and her lavish pink hair flowing under a cold breeze. "Sister?" Luna whispered, locking her gaze to the beautiful alicorn.
"I've done my part sister, I'll let you do yours." Celestia smiled, tucking her wings away before walking past her damp cheeked sister.
Luna froze, as she was completely ignored. Memories flashed of every moment Celestia gleefully came back from her duties, giving no heed to her sisters pain.
Defeat sunk through every bone in Luna's body, making her feel as brittle as glass, and heavy as iron. With a thunk, the door shut behind celestia. Luna took only a moments more pause, before making her way to the balcony. Every step she took was slow, agonizing, and made her feel like she left a crater in the floor every time she set her foot down.
The night sky used to envelope luna in its beauty. The bright moon and many stars, but today, her wet eyes made rain fall over the painting she created. Her horn lit up its familiar blue, as her head sunk below her chest.
As the moon began its slow rise to meet the stars, luna sighed loudly. Her brittle feeling didn't yield under the moons pretty glow the way it usually would.
Rejection still clung her frame, as she made her way back into the castle. Too weak and tired to even lift herself, her hooves merely dragged across the stone floor. Her expensive shoes grinding against the floor; their polish destroyed under the rough texture, but she didnt seem to notice, or care. Her magic slowly opening the door to the main hallway. Guards stood every few steps; but like her sister, seemed blind to her emotions.
What felt like hours of trudging uphill, led Luna to her chambers. A nameless guard propped open her door without a word. Her heart fluttered with a bit of relief, until she looked over at him. His face was frozen, emotionless. He wasnt being nice, he was doing his job.
As soon as the door shut behind her, Luna exploded into tears once more. The salty drops stained her cheeks as she collapsed to the floor.
Second of laying on the cold stone floor had turned to minutes, tears pooling on the floor around Luna's face, until she couldnt cry anymore, and she finally succumb to exhaustion.
Near the turn of the hour, Luna's door gave out a quiet creek as it opened. "Sister, i saw you were a bit sad earli-" Celestia cut herself off mid word, as she saw Luna collapsed to the floor. "Perhaps tomorrow" she quietly added. Her horn turned a pleasant yellow, as she hovered a blanket over her sister. Delicately tucking her in as best as the floor would allow.
"Come, join me Luna." A cold voiced echoed through the darkness of Luna's sleeping mind. "Join me, and we will overtake celestia! They will love your night!"
The words relaxed her, but for some reason a cold uneasiness caused Luna to restless toss and turn in her sleep. Every night the dreams of this voice grew stronger; its words more tempting every time she heard them.
But, a sudden banging against her chamber doors jolted her from the nightmare. For a brief second in her awakened state, A tall black alicorn figure seemed to loom over her; but it quickly dissipated with the sleepies in her eyes. "We are awake now!" She yelled, the door being pulled open by celestia. "It is time to lower the moon little sister"
Suddenly the painful memories of yesterday haunted her mind. "GET OUT!" Luna's voice seemed to echo, like a second voice was behind hers, as she magically slammed the door in her sisters face without a word of explanation. From the immediate moment she woke up, the tears had started to gather on her face once more.
