I think for most people it's the fact of when you get older the snow is no longer fun. As a kid you're in your snow suit rolling about in it, sledding, tossing it everywhere and having fun. But when you become an adult you see it as an obstruction you have to clean up and move out of the way every year.
Out here in Eastern Connecticut (only Rhode Island between us and the Atlantic Ocean) we didn't start getting snowed upon until after noon. I went out at 6:00 PM and it's a little over 10".
I'll be digging out the Japanese Jungle Jeep Sunday morning. This is why I bought an All-Wheel Drive car last year! What is that, under the drifts?

No. Far off the mark, actually, more like a: http://www.cars.com/kia/rondo/2008/
It's sad to think that this storm is just gonna make a b-line and supposedly avoid us altogether, they all do. I'm actually disappointed because it hasn't snowed like this around here in years. Our snow has actually been quite pitiful to say the least. I'd say the worst winter storm we ever had was the ice storm of 98. That was definitely quite the experience. :)
I'm located in the Adirondacks/Upstate NY. Snow like in your photo was the norm for us back when I was a kid. When we used to wake up everyday for school and saw it was this snowy out we'd watch for the school closings hoping our school was closed. Then got disappointed as every nearby school around us was closed except for ours. I swear, it felt like we'd get 5ft of snow with a white out and our school was still open no matter what. Pretty sad when you're 12 and you're watching kids from other schools out playing in the snow and you're stuck on a bus.
We used to get snow as early as October, I have fond memories of being dressed up in full snow gear with a simple costume on that could easily slip over a heavy jacket and snow pants. Trudging through a few inches of snow and sharp stinging cold to get as much candy as possible. :)
Now, it doesn't try snowing for us until January comes around and what we do get is fairly anemic compared to what we used to get.

The only one out of the three of us who ever got a bb gun was my older brother. We mostly ever used it during the summer time though. Also, the "New Yahk" spelling doesn't work for us. You'd be surprised at how different we sound here compared to those who live in NYC. Even if the car has an NY plate it's easy to tell if someone's from NYC, they're just so different sounding. :)
And yes, we used to have some intense White Christmas'. A lot of houses used to decorate every year and you could see the glow of multi color lights beaming through snow cover on hedges. One of the upsides to the holidays was my grandmother was just two houses down the road from us so all we had to do was walk over for Thanksgiving and Xmas.
It wasn't very often, but we'd also have instances where the snow would get so deep it was going half way up the bottom pane of the house windows. My father would even let us climb on top of the shed and jump off into the snow because it was just so deep. Again, now it's just anemic. Our yard was still green all through out December and it just started getting cold & "snowy" in January. x.x
Oh well, can't fix nature. :P

We don't even get that much snow, yet we can't ever leave either. The roads where I live suck and so does our driveway, plus we are kinda downhill so that makes it worse. I used to like snow, used to think it was pretty and enjoy playing in it..but now I want it to leave already, I need the warmth. Freezing in my room.
