This is actually close to the same thing that Xinnova does with her prey and play things. Using a sort of mind control/hypnosis to let the prey experience their greatest dreams while shi does whatever shi wishes with the prey in the meantime. Sometimes, never letting the dream end and letting them go out with a feeling of splendor, if they achieved their life goals and everything.
