Indiana Jones and the Kanto Connection: Chapter 7
Indiana Jones and crew run into Team Rocket's latest daring plan.
Indiana Jones and Pokemon don't belong to me. Duh.
For those who don't want the .odt file:
As the group walked into the Pokemon Center, which now consisted of Indy, Gold, Max, and Red, the nurse behind the counter looked over at them, seeming to instantly recognize Red. She had blue eyes, pink hair worn in loops about the sides of her head, and a very obvious nurse outfit. Though, that begged the question of where the doctors were in this place. The inside lobby was rather spacious, with an enormous, domed skylight. Seemed the Centers were well financed, wherever that money came from.
"Ah, hello again, Red. I assume you're here to see your pikachu..." the nurse said...it was hardly a question, as if this happened often.
"Yes." Red replied simply.
"And your friends here?"
"Friends... ...hmm, yes...they're coming, as well." Red said with a pause, as if he didn't consider any of them friends. No surprise for Indy, but for Gold...the reaction was kind of biting.
"Well, I know it's you, but...still need to see your identification."
Red handed over his Pokedex, the nurse opening it up for a moment. "All right, then. I'll lead you back to the-"
"I know where it is." Red said simply.
"I really should escort-"
"No, I need to talk to them about what happened."
The nurse looked at Gold for a moment before looking back at Red. "O-oh, I...I see." she sighed. "I really shouldn't leave you unattended back there, but...I suppose I can let it go this once. Don't get me into trouble, all right?"
"You already know me, Joy. If they make trouble, Vee will take care of it." Red replied plainly, waiting for the nurse to open up the doorway in the reception desk before starting to work his way down the hallway of recovery rooms. The rest of the group seemed a little nervous about following Red...for various reasons. Gold because Red had pointed a gun to him not a few minutes earlier, Indy because he was completely unfamiliar with this, and Max, thanks to his ralts, would sense all of the hostility and fear coming off of everyone, in addition to his existing fear.
"This is a long hallway." Indy remarked dryly as they continued to walk.
Red just looked down. "They keep Pika in the back. Long-term intensive care. Rare, but it still happens." he shuddered a little bit violently, like he wanted to hurt someone. Judging from the distance Gold was keeping from Red, it was pretty obvious who.
Room 25. Red opened the door to reveal a yellow, mouse-like creature, hooked up to several machines, the most obvious of which was a medical ventilator. The pikachu was looked over by a large pink creature that, oddly enough, was about the shape of an egg and carrying an egg in a pouch on its front. Strange. A chansey, but Indy wouldn't know that, and the mood was too somber for even Max to explain anything to him.
"Oh, Arceus..." Gold muttered.
"You remember our last battle. Don't you, Gold?" Red said, rather monotone. He probably already knew he did.
"Of course. I...had to restrain Togetaro. That's...when I found out how violent he was." Gold sounded rather shaken. "But I thought the Center took care of it."
Red let out what was almost a growl. "Oh, your disgrace of a togekiss ensured the normal recovery procedures didn't work."
Gold suddenly looked taken aback. "Hey, no one calls my Pokemon a disgrace!"
Red snarled. "It nearly killed my pikachu!"
"Plenty of Pokemon enjoy battle!"
"There's a difference between thirsting for battle and thirsting for blood, Gold!" Red yelled, sounding like he was about to work up into a fury. Red and Vee both glared at Gold, Gold still making unflinching eye contact with Red, unfazed by the espeon's piercing gaze. The silence was rather stifling after this.
Finally, Gold spoke again. "Red...you...you know I wouldn't do this on purpose." he tried to step closer to Red. "I'm sorry-"
CRACK! A sudden, powerful hook from Red sent Gold stumbling back, he looking absolutely shocked. Indy tried to go for his revolver, but suddenly, a piercing pain went through his head, Vee's piercing glare concentrated on Indy now. The chansey tried to step in, Red glaring at it for a moment, the gaze fierce enough to stop it in its tracks, as if he would've taken on a Pokemon on his own, before looking back at Gold with that same anger.
"You have no idea what it feels like, Gold. I promised I wouldn't put my Pokemon in danger. Not again. But so many of them still wanted to battle, so I gave them to people I trusted... ...except for Vee. She wanted to stay. As for Pika, well..." he looked over at the bedridden electric rodent. "...I just have to hope he recovers someday." he glared back at Gold. "If you want to continue to battle your Pokemon, go ahead. What you do is none of my business." he looked down at the ground, breathing heavily, trying to calm himself down. Gold stood back up, shaken, the side of his jaw that was hit swelling a bit now. "Just...just go..."
"But...Red-"
"I said go!" Red barked out.
Suddenly, they'd hear a different set of sounds. A faraway explosion, large amounts of glass shattering and crashing to the ground, and a scream from the nurse in the front lobby.
"Joy!" Gold yelled out, running towards the front lobby, Pokeball in hand.
Indy looked at Gold rather taken aback. "Joy? What kind of sick person are you?"
"Indy...that's her name."
"Oh."
The entire group started running towards the front lobby, Red included. They could hear heavy footsteps, the sound of many panicked trainers. Something big started happening while they were back there, that much was obvious!
"Ack, help! Nnngh-!" Max yelled out, being interrupted by a tightening of the chokehold he'd been caught in. A tall figure decked in full body armor, all gray and black, helmet included, the visor darkly tinted, held onto Max. The only part of a vastly different color was the dark red capital 'R' on the front.
"Wha-? Max! Let him go!" Gold yelled out, moving to throw the Pokeball in his hand.
"Hands up, surrender or die!" the figure yelled out, the voice distorted by some kind of device in the helmet. A sizeable semi-auto pistol, held in the hand not restraining Max, was pointed at the rest of the group! They were particularly focused on Gold, having been about to release one of his Pokemon.
Suddenly, the distinct sound of a gunshot rang deafeningly through the hall, the figure's visor getting a jagged hole punched into it, spattering the inside of the visor with blood, the figure not even able to let out a scream before they fell down to the ground, limp. Dead. "Told you this solves problems. Thanks for distracting him." Indy said dryly to Gold, having hidden himself around the corner of the hallway to take the shot. The entire rest of the group looked rather shaken, except for Red. But, then, Red was the only other one with a gun, and he'd probably used it before. Max, especially, looked very shaken, gasping for breath. He had been in a chokehold and, well, he'd just seen someone die!
"Indiana...wha...what in the world...?" Max stammered out.
"We told you it would be dangerous." Indy replied.
"Stay low." Red said quietly, they all crouching down as they opened the door to the front lobby, taking cover behind the large front reception desk. They came out into the front lobby to be greeted by the sound of glass shattering, a couple of fireteams of armored figures lowering from a heavily armored attack helicopter into the building, decked in Pokeballs, ammo, and firearms.
"Hands up, against the wall! You move, you die!" a couple of distorted voices yelled out, the voices of fearful trainers mingling in with it.
"Great...take these." Red muttered, pulling out several respirators from his backpack pocket.
"Wha-?" Max and Gold looked confused. Indy immediately put one on.
"Trust me on this one." Red said simply, slipping his respirator over his face.
"What about Vee?" Indy asked, voice muffled a little by the respirator mask. The other two were fumbling with their masks. Max's Ralts would hold onto his shoulder, shuddering in fear, Gold getting a couple of Pokeballs ready to release at a moment's notice.
"She's been through more than some poison, she'll be fine. Besides...they don't make these for Pokemon." Red said, sounding like if they did, he would have one for her. The entire conversation would stay hushed. As hushed as it could be with helicopter rotors overhead, anyways. Red seemed rather calm as he pulled out his pistol. A closer inspection would reveal it to be much like a Desert Eagle, if somewhat smaller in size. Once again, Indy wouldn't even know what such a thing was, but the concept of a semi-auto pistol wasn't exactly beyond him. He looked over at Nurse Joy, who was taking cover behind the desk nearby, looking over at them. She knew firearms were illegal outside of the hands of law enforcement, but, one would assume she didn't care much right now. "I'll assume she won't tell." Red said dryly, tossing her a respirator mask. "Use this." She quickly scrambled for it and put it over her face.
"Poison gas, go." the same distorted voice as before came from one of the two figures with red shoulder stripes, probably the fireteam leaders, pulling several Pokeballs off their chests and throwing them to the ground, the other six still holding up their assault rifles, keeping the trainers inside against the walls. The Pokeballs would let out several Pokemon that looked like hovering, purple spheres, spouting noxious gas, with a skull and crossbones marking along the lower front of them. Swarms of koffing.
"Told you. Typical Rocket." Red shook his head a little. "How many are there, eight? We can take them."
"You sound rather calm for eight Rocket members." Gold replied, looking very, very nervous.
"We got their scout, they know something's up, but not what. We need a plan, a plan..." Red paused for a moment, putting his hand on Vee's head, touching his index finger on the gem on her forehead, closing his eyes. Vee's eyes were towards the front lobby, even if the desk was in her way, her ears perked up. Red looked confused for a moment, then shook his head lightly.
"Only the team leaders are facing us. Indy, you and me shoot the team leaders on my signal, using the desk as support, unload as long as possible, Gold, let out Baktaro and Togetaro as soon as we start that, Max..." Red looked at Max and his Ralts. "Um...hmm...keep an eye on the back doors." Max didn't seem very insulted by Red's apparent notice of him and his Pokemon's lack of power, but then, this wasn't banter between trainers. This was a life and death situation.
"3...2...1...now!" Red yelled the last bit, him and Indy popping up over the desk, only just enough to support their pistols on the desk, unloading bullets into the two leaders as Gold let out Baktaro and Togetaro. Red would aim for center of mass and unload on one leader, Indy unloading his revolver into the other. The leaders tried to fire back, clipping along the desk with their bullets, but it's hard to aim when someone is already firing bullets into you, even with body armor on. Indy and Red would both duck back behind the desk, the bullets flying from the rest of the Rocket members now! Indy would take this time to start reloading his revolver. Normally, a desk wouldn't be good cover, but the wide reception desk of the Pokemon Center was thick, probably made to withstand abuse from Pokemon, much less bullets. "Baktaro, Flamethrower, wide spread!" Red yelled. Despite the fact that Red wasn't his trainer, Baktaro seemed to listen, spouting flames from its mouth, creating a wall of fire in front of the desk. "Togetaro, take care of the helicopter!" Togetaro took off rather quickly, seeming quite eager to get to destroy something.
Indy looked up, finally getting a look at the whirring metal beast above them, which was moving to try and quickly turn towards them. An attack helicopter, with a front mounted gatling gun, trying to move to get into a position to fire at them! Togetaro would be much too quick to let that happen, though, a ball of bluish energy flying up, blowing the gatling gun straight off the helicopter before Togetaro would fly up and level out to avoid being hit by the rotors, slashing through the side of the helicopter with his wing, sending the helicopter spiraling out of control, plummeting downwards, through the already shattered domed skylight, swerving off as it fell, sending both the trainers and Rocket members inside scattering every which way before it smashed through the large, plate-glass entrance of the Pokemon Center, sending broken glass everywhere with a deafening crash!
Indy and Red would both take this chance to start gunning for the rest of the paramilitary group of Rocket members, taking down another three of them before they could regroup amidst the chaos, plenty of trainers taking the chaos as an opportunity to escape their predicament! Unfortunately for the rest, the remaining three members of Rocket would start to use the trainers as human shields!
"Togetaro, don't attack them!" Gold yelled out. He didn't know where he was right now, but...anything he was going to do wasn't going to leave those trainers unharmed! All of them were taking cover behind the desk again, the group of Rocket soldiers rapidly approaching.
Suddenly, gunshots from the other direction, putting two of the Rocket members to the ground! The ensuing panic let the hostages escape as the remaining Rocket member tried to shoot towards the source of the gunshots, but they were quickly engulfed in fire by an orange furred, black striped dog-like creature, they yelping out in a panic, dropping down and rolling on the ground, which gave plenty of time for these three new armored figures to pin them to the ground, zip-tying their hands together, all carrying high power assault rifles. They all would have dark blue shoulder pads, the figure in front having a gold stripe along the middle of each shoulder pad.
"Main lobby clear." A pause. "You, behind the desk, Celadon City SWAT, hands up, stand up slowly!" A voice came from what seemed to be the leader. The voice was distorted, but it sounded female. Indy and Red would quickly put their guns away, raising their hands.
"Oh, it's you. Who else is back there?" they asked. Max and Gold, along with Nurse Joy, would come up with their hands raised, as well. Baktaro and Vee would look at these figures from over the desk, Togetaro looking from above.
"Keep looking, make sure we're not missing- Ah!" she suddenly raised her gun up. "Get down!" Another Rocket member would stumble from the door behind them, clutching his head. Max's ralts would look rather concentrated, seeming to be causing this. Red swung a kick into the back of the legs of this person, forcing them down onto their knees, the back two SWAT members moving to zip-tie them. At about this moment, two more SWAT members came through the entrance to the back of the building, guns pointed at the group behind the desk. "Building clear. Local police are forming a perimeter, evidence found of a firearms struggle with Rocket members, ma'am." That couldn't be good.
"All right, against the wall. Search them." the leader barked out.
"Jenny, would you really-?" Red started trying to protest.
"Rules are rules, Red. Against the wall."
They really wouldn't have any choice but to comply. Though a search wouldn't find any weapons or holsters, a fact which would leave Indy rather stunned, but he knew to keep his mouth shut about it.
"Hmm...well, damn, must have been one of the trainers that ran off."
Indy shook his head a little. "So, why is it that a Pokemon taking down a helicopter in a way that endangers lives is just fine, but those using firearms with...at least some semblance of precision..." he motioned over to the dead Rocket leaders. "They're to be punished?"
"The use of Pokemon in that manner is licensed under the Juvenile Pokemon Trainers Act, Self-Defense Clause, the use of firearms is strictly forbidden outside of law enforcement under the Enhanced Projectile Weaponry Restriction Act."
"I didn't ask what laws covered it, I asked why." Indy replied, putting emphasis on that last word.
"...I'm not here to answer your questions." Jenny replied back with a pause. "Now, return your Pokemon, we need to ask you some questions at the station."
"Oh, we don't have time for this!" Gold yelled out. "Hey, we're already after Rocket, you know!"
"That is the job of law enforcement-"
"No, it's the job of a trainer! They're trying to harness the power of a Pokemon! I love the police as much as the next guy, but, no disrespect, you guys don't really have a way with Pokemon."
Red spoke up simply. "That's the final piece I was looking for..."
Everyone else looked at him curiously. "Hmm?"
"Think about it. Rocket doesn't do anything randomly. What's on the fourth and fifth floors of the Celadon Department Store?"
"How do you know about the burglary?" Jenny asked sternly.
Red shrugged lightly. "Blame Vee for that. She heard your earpieces. Now, what's on those floors?" Red asked, still sounding very level-headed, considering what had happened.
Jenny replied quickly. "Evolution stones and enhancement drugs. Oh-"
"There's always a reason. Did anyone notice some of the grunts weren't talking?"
Jenny paused a moment. "Um..."
"Right, you got here at the end. I know Rocket grunts are obedient, but no telling the trainers to keep against the wall? Only a couple of them did that. Take a look at the helmets, too..." Red motioned towards the zip-tied member that had been set on fire earlier, they not protesting, not audibly, anyways, only struggling, their helmet seeming elongated compared to the dead leaders. As did several of the others. "When I was sight-sharing with Vee, something seemed off. It puzzled me, some of them didn't seem quite like pokemon or humans."
Jenny would shake her head. "Red, that's just insane."
"Is it? Take one of their helmets off, let's see."
"That's against protocol until they're in full custody."
"Jenny, can we forget the protocol for once? You know me, you know what I've done, I wouldn't be insisting on this if I didn't have a very good reason for it. Besides, they're not going anywhere."
One of the troopers spoke up. "Ma'am, you can't possibly be thinking-"
"I am. Take the helmet off, make sure they're facing away from us."
"But, ma'am-"
"I made myself clear. Do it."
They paused for a moment, before finally moving to take the helmet off, it coming off with a hiss as the environmental systems disengaged, revealing the blue-and-black furred head of a lucario, fear in their eyes. A thin collar, heavy with circuitry, was around their neck, this...lucario-human hybrid continually glancing at it, looking pleadingly at the officers pointing guns at them.
Jenny put her visor up, looking absolutely stunned. "What in Arceus' name...?"
Red groaned. "I told you...but it looks like he's focusing on-"
"She." Gold cut in.
"Wha-?"
"I've been around more than enough pokemon to know. I noticed the same thing, though, she's focusing her attention on the collar-"
Suddenly, seven different sources let out three quick, successive beeps, the lucario hybrid giving one heavy, seizing twitch before slumping over, eyes rolled up into their sockets, the other figure simultaneously doing the same!
One of the officers pulled out a device, that looked like a more advanced version of a Pokedex, holding it close to the lucario hybrid's neck and chest. "Ma'am, she's gone into full cardiac arrest!"
"What? You're certain?"
"Positive, complete asystole." he groaned, stripping off his helmet, followed by the lucario's body armor, pulling out a CPR kit to protect himself, starting to initiate the chest compressions and breaths of the CPR cycle, another officer stripping the helmet and body armor off of the other figure, having to do his best to administer CPR to a blaziken. The ambulance sirens in the distance would indicate that medical help was on the way soon.
Jenny would give a very worried sigh. "It appears that now, I ask you to come back to the station with me under an entirely different context."
"What would that be?" Indy asked.
"We appear to need your help."
Indiana Jones and Pokemon don't belong to me. Duh.
