Since I've always been huge Star Trek fan, I had to try transcribing one of the themes. I decided to try my hand at the main title from Star Trek: First Contact by Jerry Goldsmith (I'm a sucker for French Horns). No sheet music was used. This was all done by ear, using a couple of virtual instrument libraries from CineSamples, Finale 2012 and my laptop. I listened to a track several times and did my best to get it close! I loved how this one turned out. I'm not sure what I'll do next, but I have a great idea for an original composition! Enjoy!
PS - I've been asked why I have done the last two transcriptions. Honestly it is fun, and it's a good way to keep up on the orchestration and ear training skills I learned getting my degree. Composing is a lot like playing an instrument. If you don't practice, you can lose the ability. And if you're not feeling creative enough to write something original, this is a good way to get some ideas. There is a video of the playback from Finale on my YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ups4r7aM1Vo
