hyup. old school....or maybe "best school" when it comes to Erma's story. Major reason for furry fandom - and what's happening now is a dim shadow...there hasn't been a story nearly as good as this in the new fandom. People need to wake up to how furry started and how it's not as smart as it was....
Khai is kinda-sorta a mythic "God"/"Creator" that by the time of Erma is slowly growing in popularity. The hundred and sixty-odd species of people are not native to this region of space, and they have no history explaining where they and their civilization came from. For them, history began with an Awakening a couple centuries before Erma was born.
I can almost hear the trumpet, "Blah, blah, blah" from the old animated Peanuts cartoons.
Years ago, the Base had a visit from POTUS, and every shift got a briefing like this. The Coast Guard had already taken two Zodiac-type boats piloted by Greenpeace out out of the river. We were lectured by the Major of the Selective Service in charge of the detail. We were on high alert, and NIS (now NICS) posted me on the highest point on the base with, at the time (1988), one of the hottest infrared night vision scopes available. Geek heaven, I tell you. And yes, I did spot some dude in a rowboat, but he turned out to be just some drunken sailor from the Sub Base.

I really don't like it when some background text is displayed like this but it's shown chopped, so we don't really read what's in there, except for the important parts, like Erma receiving her task for the operation. I know that the point here is to show what they're whispering among them. It's just that I'm the curious one and would like to know the full briefing.
