‘I know why Chara climbed the mountain. It wasn’t for a very happy reason.“
I never quite bought that the Demon at the end of the Bad Time run was truly Chara - that Chara was some sort of malevolent being that planned all this since they set out for Mt Ebbot. I just don’t think a child would have that in them. But there’s no denying Chara was a damaged individual. His hatred for humanity, his eventual end and (I think) his reason for climbing Mt Ebbot in the first place all point to something very bad that happened to him in the past that never really left him.
And while I don’t think the Demon is literally Chara, that pain may have lived on after his death~

From my understanding, the Demon is Chara, who experienced the same sort of displacement that Asrael did when he became Flowy. It's just that, in Chara's case, he/she was carried to the ruins to be buried (where the character eventually lands at the beginning of the game). Considering how Flowy changed, it's a pretty safe bet that the imprisonment Chara went through changed them as well until they could start manifesting in the Fallen Child as they gained LOVE.
