By planned out do you mean linework? I didn't for this one, no. I typically just go in with large brush strokes unless like...I just feel like doing lines for some reason. Which is occasionally the case with portraits.

I think he was asking whether you used a model or reference photo for this pose, or whether it was drawn without references.

It's amazing, by the way. And given that eyeline, it looks like he's looking across the room at someone or something else.
