I used his picture as a visual reference as it gave me a very basic and very good representative pose for a design, rather than a dynamic action-y pose that would have skewed details and perspective. I am autistic and very detail oriented and I spent a long time refining this sketch, so there are bound to be similarities to the reference used. I feel Palmer's work is one of the best depictions of the recently famous raptor, there are only so many poses this animal can be in while still offering a decent view of the thigh, wing and neck markings. I however did not trace this in any way and most of my inspiration for markings come from cardinals, clouded leopards and snakes.
Oh, no worries, I'm not accusing you of tracing, just stating that the reference pose is very similar so that you can avoid any crediting errors. I do like the colors that you added to this one, they're very natural and easy on the eyes! Your attention to detail is very nice and I appreciate that you did indeed spend time giving this raptor your own defining style.
Your interpretation of the Dakotaraptor is wonderful nonetheless and I do hope to see more of it in the future! I may even doodle it up for you in my spare time!

I know you didn't. I just got a little defensive, my apologies! I agree I should have credited and I made sure to give credit where it is due. Thanks for pointing it out!
My commissioner had a very specific set of animals in mind that she wanted to influence the design, though I took liberties with all the paaaaaank. Oooh if you doodled this gal, I'm sure her owner would be very pleased!
