Kangaroo rats are entirely too rare so it's nice to see such a character. It's also nice that he's not overly muscular - no rodent should be*. However, he does suffer from another problem in this community - most furry artists barely draw rodents, so the actual rodent-appeal is lacking (looks more than a take-off of a lion-king style feline, mostly in the face. Feet are also non-rodent-like). I'd prefer there be no hair but, that's just me.
The core appeal is there. Just needs the right artist(s).
*Wild squirrels perhaps (if they live in the forest). They'd be pretty fit. But perhaps I'm biased because I do give my squirrels some muscle mass for certain situations.

Thank you! I agree, a small thin build on a rodent makes sense to me.
The other two issues, face structure and feed style are both personal choices for my character. Often a kangaroorat can be seen perched on their hindpaws as though they get around in a digitigrade fashion, and their hopping motion is also mostly front-paw based. Though they are not truly digitigrade like canines or felines, I felt like the long leg shape helps his thin frame appearance and just looks better than massive plantigrade clown feet. Tradeoffs, you know?
As for the face, I imagined it to be quite a bit more compressed, leaning far more towards a human skull shape than a rodent skull. This is apparent in the muzzle's nose bridge, in which his muzzle is mostly flat until between his eyes, where it rapidly curves into the forehead. This is not like a usual mouse shape, where the muzzle bridge is much more curved into the forehead. This is, again, just a personal choice for how I like my character to be rendered.
Ultimately we're all on some kind of spectrum between animal and human shape I just chose a bit more flavor for Cellivar than an uplifted kangaroorat.
Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it!

My criticism of the feet is mostly related to the toes. The thickness of them is reminiscent of a canine or feline. Rodent feet have kind of a specific look. As per the face, whatever you're into. In my opinion, the "Smile More" drawing is a little better in that regard though still slightly more stylized than I prefer (I don't like my rodents to be entirely realistic, it's a delicate balance).
What brought me here was that somebody apparently had done a porn commission with your character and another, much more boring husky character. But I had no idea your character was meant to be a kangaroo rat until I saw the tags. Incredulous, I came to check if the problem was on your end, or their end. The results are more or less inconclusive.

Haha, that comission was in fact a friend of mine's character and my character. In the pose he's in only the tail can really give away that Cellivar is a kangaroo rat, the facial features and everything else just don't come across quite as well. An artist's style plays a big part in how well the features come across, or if he just ends up looking fox-ish.
I would agree and disagree on the feet. Kangaroo rats/mice specifically have a very specialized hindpaw structure that leads to larger than normal rodent feet. You can really see it in this picture: http://cdn1.arkive.org/media/4A/4AA.....ide-burrow.jpg
In this art piece MajMajor is using his more common style of footpaw and that's alright, it looks good with the rest of the style going on here. If I were to change the feet the bone structure would be less tall, a bit more flat and forward. Initially Cellivar had plantigrade human-style feet, I find this to just overall make for a better character.
Rendering Cellivar's face is an ongoing process, I'm still refining and generating details. I'm sure your thoughts will factor into the future. Thank you for your feedback!
