figured i'd show off my work area
as well as the latest addition, my 5th screen
See, i have found a way to turn screens from broken laptops into computer screens
so i am currently testing out the latest one (well it is from a broken laptop), usually i only use the 4 in this sort of arrangement
and i could drop down to 3, but i find 4 to be a comfortable number
any questions, feel free to ask

Not exactly sure what you mean by range, but i use it for measuring CPU temps...and checking water when cooking pasta >.>;;
so i know it will do over -20c to over 100c
as for distance, not sure, never used it further then a few Cm away from something

Here is the model and such, hope that helps you, i did get mine at Altronics for like $20

Yeah, I meant distance. It'd be nice to be able to check bonnet temps at a distance with some of our sites, is all. We've had some... claims that need checking out, and a cold engine would prove them quite nicely. Being able to check it at range would avoid putting certain people on the defensive about it.
Alright, well i have found that hotter something is, the easier it is to get a read at a distance
but you are looking at about 1-5 meters, obviously closer is more accurate,
like example, measuring something about 30c on a 16c night, was getting about 3 meters away before it wasn't getting a good read on the source (like i started getting readings of 24c instead of 30)
where something 50c on a 16c night, i was getting 5 meters and still reading fairly clearly

Well kinda, i had to buy controllers for them online for $50usd, but had to make sure they work,
there were several cheaper ones, but the $50 one was willing to answer my questions and give me advice, and it's was the ones used by "Great scott" when he made his
as for a cheap way to get a extra monitor....KINDA, depends on what you want
for me, i wanted 2 smaller monitors, honestly for $50usd each, i could of gotten a couple of cheap and nasty monitors,
but there is also a benefit to laptop screens, their power draw is less, and both of those are actually running off a single 12v-2a power supply,
there is also the pleasent surprise factor, i actually have a 3rd monitor, tiny 9inch thing, when i got a board for it, i found out it was actuallly a 1080p screen (the other two, were 768p), so that made it useful for test footage or playing consoles
So really depends on what you want, and depends on prices,
its a good way to get some small screens, especially 13.3inches
which as you can see, are fitting in a place where a 20inch screen couldn't
