I'm not one of those obsessive types that had to collect every pokemon. I had the card game, watched the first season, all of the films up to Pokemon B & W. I never really understood the popularity since after the first season it pretty much seemed like the faces changed but everything else stayed the same. Suddenly 150 Pokemon wasn't enough, I don't even know how many we're at now for the sake of marketing and more cartoon episodes.
However, while I still prefer Digimon for it's stronger story and numerous reimaginings of its own premise, I always had a soft spot for two Pokemon. Jigglypuff was my first Poke-Crush, I loved watching that thing draw on everyone's faces when they fell asleep, poor thing just wanted love!
Anyway, the next pokemon that caught my affections was Teddy Ursa. Those of you who know me know that I have a soft spot for Teddy Bears, especially Grumpy Bear. That said, when I saw Teddy Ursa in Pokemon 3, I was like... Adorable!
So when robertge offered pics of you with your pokemon, I asked for this.

Well, I always felt that Pokemon never changed anything. It's always gotta catch em all with the same villians and the same motif of beating all the gym leaders.... Ash is always important even though I wasn't sure if there was a logical explanation why that was, but I haven't watched since Johto.
I'm a big fan of character development and serialized storylines, and Digimon had that. The plot and objective changed several times a season, and the villain and even universe changed now and then. It was nice that they were more companions than just accumulating a crack team of pokemon.

Yeah, but character development isn't just about changing around powers and whatnot; while the basic premise didn't change, characters did learn and develop over episodes or even arcs. Whereas I always felt with digimon, it was just another 'insert boom new deux ex machina power of the day' for each arc. But they didn't do the episodic thing, instead making long stories for the whole season.
They're different art forms, and I sorta thought the character development between the kids in digimon never really changed their personalities around at all, despite having a big story arc.
Serialized storylines certainly can be more developed, definitely have more space for it, but I don't think they always manage it.

Maybe, but with Pokemon it always felt to me every episode was the same. There wasn't enough change for me at a fast enough rate. Just insert new pokemon/gym/land here and repeat. Though they both have their place, of course, each concept brings something different to the table.
