Sort of a what-if story. One of the big glaring plotholes of the DC Universe is when you look at Superman and you take into consideration that the Green Lantern Corps is in the same universe. Krypton was, in fact, part of Space Sector 2813 which was one of the larger space sectors patrolled by the Green Lantern Corps and the Honor Guards. That being said, the Green Lanterns should've been there to evacuate the planet and save everyone. So why didn't they?
Well, let's just ignore the fact that the Guardians actually let the planet explode and lose all its people(as stated in the Injustice Comic tie-in to the fighting game). Suppose that they did save them. Kal-El would've never gone to earth, but as the House of El is synonomous with Hope, Kal-El could've very much been taken in by Saint Walker and the other Blue Lanterns. He would've made for an excellent ally in the fight against the Black Lanterns and possibly the Sinestro Corps War.
All will be well.
In Fearful Day, in Raging Night
With hopeful hearts, our souls ignite
When all seems lost in the War of Light
Look to the skies, for Hope burns bright!
