A short drabble I wrote over on tumblr and decided to migrate it here just to vary up the gallery. Expect more soon.

“So why’d ya make this again?” Undyne asked curiously, giving the metal side of the device a tap with a claw, creating a resounding clink that briefly filled the lab. The tall, blue-scaled fish monster strode around the vaguely ray-shaped machine, looking quite similar to something one would find in a cheap sci-fi flick, oddly held up by a tripod of legs while the long end of the ray’s muzzle was pointed upwards to avoid any haphazard misfires if it were to go off accidentally. Her single eye examined it for anything that could catch her interest or was at least slightly entertaining, but all she could see the blandness of it, nothing of piquing note.
“Well,” A softer, more squeaky voice in contrast to her gruff loudness called from the opposite end of the lab, followed by sounds of strained grunting. Undyne looked up to see her stout girlfriend struggling to carry a toolbox to where she stood by the ray, a small fanged smirk forming on her face followed by a soft chuckle. Walking over to her, in one hand she easily lifted up the toolbox, winking down at the yellow lizard scientist.
Alphys blushed and averted locking gazes with her girlfriend out of embarrassment, coughing to move the situation along. “S-since we’re not underground anymore, I don’t have to spend all of my time researching a way to get past the barrier. I c-can pursue other things!” She stated proudly, beaming with a nervous grin. “I’ve been meaning to try and combine human science with monster magic, and I think this experiment can culminate t-that theory.”
Undyne set the box down beside the machine with a dull metallic thud against the floor, looking back up with a perplexed expression. “Say what now? You kinda lost me, Al.”
“I went over it last night, don’t you remember? I had a whole presentation and everything!”
“Uhhhh…yeah. Yeah I remember. Let’s go with that!” What she could remember was daydreaming about what anime they were going to marathon afterwards, looking over at Alphys thinking about how cute she was while she explained in extreme articulated depth as to what this experiment would entail, and zoning in and out of thought out of boredom until she was snapped back to reality.
“Are you sure?” Alphys asked with a frown, waddling over to her. “I could go over it again, if you’d like. I know you have trouble sometimes paying attention when I drone on…” She looked down at her feet as she spoke, shuffling on the spot.
“Nonono!” The taller of the two knelt down so that she was eye level with her girlfriend, placing two hands firmly on both shoulders. “I was totally paying attention to you talk about science! I know you love it, and you do tons of cool stuff with it!!! Now c’mon, let’s fire this baby up and…see what it…does?” It was her turn to grin nervously now.
Alphys sighed and rolled her eyes, but returned the grin softly. “It can change matter! Increase or decrease it, while still retaining the original properties of said altered matter. I-It’s amazing r-really! I stayed up for three days just to see if I could even put it together-”
“Listen,” Undyne cupped her hands around the scaly gal’s cheeks, pressing them in and smushing them so that Alphys’s lips were forced into a kissy face position. “You gotta get some sleep. After this you rest okay? Maybe with me. We can cuddle into a nap together. All that gooey romantic crud.”
Another blush rose, visible against her brightly colored scales. “O-okay…y-yeah. We can do that.”
“Great!” Undyne pulled back and clapped her hands, standing back up. “Let’s get it started! What do you need me to do?”
Taking a few seconds to readjust herself and fix her glasses, Alphys nodded, a short burst of confidence courteous of her partner invigorating her. “R-right! Umm, well, let me calibrate the machine first, a-and then we can test it on something first.” Reaching down, she picked up a discarded ramen cup that had missed the trash can, a days old smell reeking from it and dried, uneaten noodles clinging to the inside. “We can use this.” Alphys stated, trotting over and placing the trash in the test area in front of the ray, thinking they could at least put some of this to use before actually throwing it away proper.
“Just give me a moment…” Standing behind the mass-altering machine, Alphys fiddled with the control panel while Undyne stood off to the side. She had run the numbers through her head, but had to guesstimate exactly how much power was necessary to change the mass of the cup. Since this was a test run, she was unsure of the outcome, or if it would even work at all, but that was science for you. Alter a variable, try and repeat until satisfied.
“Stand clear!” She shouted to ready Undyne, aiming the ray and squinting to get the shot right. “Firing….now!!!”
Several things went wrong at once. First, there was a sort of a kick to the machine turning on, causing her to lose her grip on it, a scared yelp escaping her mouth as it began to fire this way and that, a bright beam blasting through the lab. The target was missed entirely as Alphys struggled to regain control, Undyne noticing the fret of her girlfriend, and being the heroic heroine she was, leapt into the fray to safe her.
Her plan was to grapple the machine and keep it from hitting Alphys, suplex it, and then pose dramatically over the shattered remains of its mechanical corpse, Alphys swooning and clinging to her leg in dramatic fashion, moaning “Ooooooohhhhhh, Undyne~”
However that was all in her head, and it did not go that way. As soon as she jumped it, she was hit square in the torso by the blast, the light intensifying and filling the room blindingly. She let out a confused grunt, unsure what she should be feeling as her vision turned to white.
---
“Uughhh, my head…” Undyne groaned, holding a hand to her temple to keep the slight pulse of a headache that echoed inside her skull from growing any worse than it was. “What happened? Alphys? You okay-” Opening her eye, she blinked briefly out of confusion. The tingle of fresh air had washed over her, followed by a slight, cool breeze that felt good against her scales. Why was she outside?
As she shifted in place, the sound of crumbling filed the air, Undyne briefly looking down to find a destroyed and somehow much smaller lab surrounding her in its debris. A warning signal went off in her head, immediately causing the enlarged fish to panic. “Alphys! Alphys you okay come on talk to melemmeknowifyourealright-”
She began to feverishly sift through the ruins in an attempt to find her, looking for any signs of the color yellow against the dust and fallen architecture. After roughly a minute of panicked searching, a a small cough alerted her and brought her attention below. Alphys emerged from underneath a pile of what used to be a wall, looking no worse for wear as she adjusted her glasses and coughed to remove any foreign object that may have gotten stuck in her lungs.
“OH MY GOD ALPHYS YOU’RE OKAY!”
The small lizard jumped from the familiar, yet much louder than normal voice that boomed overhead. She nervously peered upwards, craning her neck back to trail her view along the wall of jean that lead up to the rest of Undyne looming overhead and looking worried sick. “U-Undyne…” She gawked, trying to comprehend what she was looking up at. “Y-y-you….”
A shadow overcame her as Undyne lowered her hand, briefly causing Alphys to flinch at the large object that could rip a building out of its foundation, but found it gentle as it carefully picked her up and moved her into the center of Undyne’s palm. The good doctor stood unsurely still staring up, shuffling in the calloused scales as she was raised up to Undyne’s face, an eye that outsized her staring down in worry. “At least you look okay.” Undyne whispered softly now, her usual brashness gone. “You hurt anywhere?”
“N-no, I’m fine.” Alphys shook her head. “B-b-but you! Are you okay!?”
“Me? Pshaw I’m fine.” She shrugged, creating a slight rumble with the motion. “Looks like your…matter…thingy worked.”
“A little too well, hehe…”
“I dunno, I think I could get used to being this big.” Undyne chuckled, sitting up, Alphys noticing just how high up she was standing on her girlfriend’s hand, feeling as if she was atop the roof of a highrise building, and she was just sitting down. “Wouldn’t you wanna keep me this way?” Turning on the teasing, she deeply lowered her voice into a husky sort of growl, the reverberating echo that shuddered through Alphys’s spine only adding to the blush that began to burn in her cheeks.
“We…w-we can’t leave you like this!” She forced herself to sputter out.
“Oh come on Alphy,” Undyne moved her hand closer to her face, leveling it so that she was face to lips with Undyne’s mouth, puckering into a kiss that pressed against her whole body, smooching her for a good several seconds before leaving with a “Mwah!” for enunciation. Alphys was left stunned, shivering from excitement before she managed to snap herself out it, nervously shaking her head once more.
“N-no! It’s not safe for you, and we don’t know the outcome, or the full effects, o-or-or….”
“Fine, fine. If you say so, Alphy.” Undyne caved, rolling her eye. “I trust ya. You’ve never been wrong on these sort of things anyway.”
Alphys sighed in relief, physically feeling the stress leave her body. “Whew. A-alright, thank you Undyne.” She gave a small smile, to which her grown girlfriend could only chuckle-grin at such an adorable display.
“Not gonna lie, gonna miss seeing ya so small, it’s cute. I could keep you in a small terrarium or something like the little liz you are.”
“M-moving on!!”
After shuffling around in the destroyed leftovers of the lab, eventually the matter machine was retrieved, luckily not looking too damaged. Setting Alphys down beside it, Undyne waited patiently as she watcher the tiny yellow figure scurry around to do some minor repairs, eventually starting the ray back up after readjusting the numbers and decreasing the power output. “Stand still please…3…2…1….”
“Fire!”
Moments after the flash had died, Undyne was back to her normal, albeit still quite tall status, hefting up her girlfriend in her arms into a backbreaking hug. “So…what are we going to do about your lab?” Undyne asked, looking around them.
“…I’ll see if I can get more funding for repairs."
