Rom hacks and repros, Varga. I am impressed. Not all games are well documented like Zelda is and then there is the complexity of games like Megaman that layer sprites upon sprites. The art alone would take hours and hours. Though with this example one can change colors for the canid effectively making it a bit easier to customize to others. Given the cost of all new parts and depending on your time if you have to start from scratch, I'd say 100 dollars plus.
One can replace pokemon graphics easily too.

Nintendoage has a wealth of information on this sort of thing. I was looking into it too but gave up after seeing the cost of decent equipment and the time necessary. I admire your gumption. Are custom controllers on the menu too? I need to get around to making a twin sticks controller:)
