Okay, so not the story I previously mentioned having a surge of inspiration for. That one is still being worked on. But here's a little shorty short story for you to enjoy instead!

Valentine's Day, the one day a year when couples everywhere celebrated their love for each other and those that were single were reminded of how single they were. For Maxi, it was just another day. She had been asked out by a few guys, but had turned them all down. When she was asked out, she wanted it to be about her. Not some misplaced desire to not be without a date on Valentine's Day.
She had just finished work and was looking forward to chilling out with her video games. Changa had shown up the day before, so she figured she would have the apartment all to herself. But when she walked in the door she heard the TV playing in the background. Entering the living room, she found Tart and Changa sitting side by side, snuggled close together under a blanket.
"Hey!" Tart greeted her roommate enthusiastically. She was wearing an off shoulder sweater that had slid down a little too far. Surprisingly, she was wearing a bra underneath so she remained decent, at least by conventional standards. Changa was also wearing a sweater; hers had three-quarter length sleeves.
"I didn't expect you to be here," Maxi said, sitting down on the arm of the chair, facing the two ladies on the couch.
"Where else would we be?" Tart asked, oblivious to where Maxi's thoughts were.
The dalmatian gestured around the room. "Out somewhere, doing something romantic or some shit."
Dawning shone in the purple depths of the corgi’s eyes. "Right, it's Valentine's Day. Are you kidding me? It's crazy out there."
Changa nodded her head in agreement. "Plus you need to have made reservations last year if you wanted to get into any of the good restaurants."
"Mmhmm," Tart agreed. Her eyes suddenly widened. "Wait… Are you expecting someone? Do Changa and I need to leave?" she asked with a hopeful spark.
Maxi cleared her throat nervously. "No, no. Not at all. Just didn't think you guys would be here, is all."
"Are you surrrre?" Tart persisted with a teasing smile.
With a roll of her eyes, Maxi answered, "I'm sure, you pest."
"If you don't have any other plans, we were going to have a movie marathon. You should join us," Changa said.
"Yeah!" Tart said eagerly.
Maxi smiled in response. "Okay. Let me just change real quick." She padded off to her room to put on some lounge clothes, choosing a t-shirt with the logo of one of her favorite bands on it and a pair of grey cotton capris.
When she returned to the living room, she asked, "What are we going to watch?"
"Pride & Prejudice, for one. Then Titanic…" Tart was saying before getting interrupted.
"Hold on. We aren't going to watch all rom coms, are we?" Maxi asked. She was beginning to wonder if she had made a horrible decision.
"Oh no," Changa said instantly. "I've already made Tart agree to watch Insidious 3. After that, if we aren't tired and ready for bed, we plan on watching The Ugly Truth."
Relieved that she wasn't about to be overloaded with gooey, mushy love stories, Maxi started towards the chair.
"No you don't. Sit that cute little ass of yours right here," Tart instructed, patting the couch cushion beside her. She even held the blanket up so Maxi could cover up also.
Once all three girls had settled, the movie marathon began. After the first movie, a bowl of popcorn was made and wine glasses were filled. During Titanic, Maxi noticed Tart snuggling up closer to Changa, and suspected there was some light touching going on below the blanket during the scene in the car. She pretended not to notice. A bathroom break followed the conclusion of that movie. Some taquitos and stuffed nachos were heated up and tequila shots were drank during the intermission.
Before Changa pressed the play button to begin Insidious 3, she looked over at Tart. "You ready for this?" she asked, a little smirk on her face revealing her fangs.
The corgi was not a fan of scary movies. They usually left her with nightmares. She drew in a deep breath, the alcohol in her system giving her courage. "Yes," she proclaimed.
Despite her bravado at the beginning of the movie, Tart quickly melted into a jumpy mess. She held tightly to Changa's arm and buried her head in the border python's neck several times, usually following a squeak of fright.
"I need more tequila," Tart declared at the movie's conclusion. Maxi and Changa both laughed, but joined her in another shot. "Happy Valentine's Day!" Tart said, raising her glass in a toast.
"Cheers!" Changa toasted back.
It was already well past midnight, but they bravely started the fourth and final movie on the planned playlist. Maxi was the first to drift off to sleep, exhausted from a long day of work. Tart was next, a result her adrenaline leveling off and the alcohol. Changa gave in last, lulled to sleep by the slumbering noises of the other two females. And so ended a non-traditional Valentine's Day celebrated by three ladies who were bound by the love of friendship.
