Doctors are very boring, highly clinical and like to show off a little, if there's a chance to pronounce something complex (like what GAH stands for) they will do so rather than using an acronym.
But it's a good start, really brings you very quickly into the world and wanting to know more.
From how things work "here" (which is never an indication of anything useful) I would have thought it was the other way around, the younger (or older) you are the more likely things are worse, your immune system can't quite deal with all the nonsense and doesn't quite help as much as it should.
