They were lucky enough to be able to get a ship to Solamnia. It would have made a brief stop of one day on the shores of Schallsea, but they didn't mind. Everything was better than keeping in one place, especially after all that turmoil caused by the wave of monsters and vision originated from the Graygem.
Brimelle, on her side, was very eager to leave that place. The more far I am from Silvanesti, the happier everyone will be, she thought to herself. Also, she didn't want to fall in the insidious trap laid by her own guilt like she did just a couple of hours before. If it wasn't for Aliranne, she would have still been crying on the grass.
The voyage of the ship was brief and fast, they reached Schallsea in no time. By 2 p.m. they were already inside the local tavern of the Citadel of Light, the walls made of glass making it possible to see through each room and even directly onto the road. No privacy at all, although the game of lights and shadows between the translucent bricks was something most would define as mesmerizing.
Once they all had eaten something, Vorador expressed his wish of visiting the local library, thus starting the quest of talking to the ones in charge of such a place, as the Mystics who were not studying on that same island were not allowed inside the site of knowledge. This quest was taken upon by everyone but Aaon, who decided it was wiser to stay inside the tavern.
Not allowed in a library, humbugs, if you tell me, thought Brimelle, knowledge should be a free resource for everyone to cherish in. This was the same argument she brought upon the high librarian as soon as she got hold of him. Well, her breasts did that work for her, to her slight disappointment.
Anyway, so they were off to the library.
In the meantime, Aaon felt a strange force coming from the north of the island. He started walking in that direction. It wasn't long before a strange voice started talking to him and, with that voice, came a red line of a liquid substance, right in front of the druid. The blood path led to a woman who, apparently, was the one dripping blood. She was giving Aaon her back, moving creepily.
After a discourse with the voice, Aaon finally turned the woman around only to see that where her heart once was there was now a hole. And thus she stopped moving altogether.
Aaon ran back to the city, calling for one of the novices, asking him to call some major charges, for this was a very serious happening. He would have been waiting for them at the tavern.
And that's where the rest of the party found him.
They weren't even able to exchange a few words that a mysterious force made them stand up and walk towards the north of the island, again. It was a different force, this time, not even the druid was able to sense it at first. Then, Aaon, Brimelle and Vorador understood that they were being under the influence of a greater darker presence and were able to stop Kon es Kaz in time. Aliranne ran. Brimelle tried to follow her, but she was just too quick for the centaur's reflexes. The red robed mage disappeared in front of the others' eyes, as if she had just crossed a portal.
Vorador followed Kon who had in turn thrown himself in the portal to save Aliranne; Brimelle and Aaon went back to the tavern where the novice had just returned. Finally, after an excursus at the corpse of the dead woman, Aaon and the troubled centauress went back to the "portal" crossing it without hesitating.
Once inside, Brimelle found both Vorador and Kon es Kaz exactly as if they had just crossed the line that brought them inside that place. Time seemed to flow in a different fashion. About the place itself, it looked like an empty room, completely black as if it was made out of pure shadow. The sky was covered in multicolor fragments which moved in a gaussian way. On a better look, those "fragments" turned out to be Gloomwings: strangely enough, they didn't seem to affect the party perception.
Aliranne lied unconscious on the floor. Brimelle went immediately to her and tried to bring her out of the distortion, but, as she came out of the portal, the body of the mage stood behind.
Brimelle came back inside the strange plane in time to see a very big Gloomwing coming down from the stream above her head. That Gloomwing brought down another surprise: the Herald. Finally, she was able to see that elusive character everybody kept talking about. He looked like a young man, with a cured beard and a brown tunic decorated with gold and gray. He sent forward two worm-like creatures but the adventurers were ready to face them (which includes the mage too, who finally awoken from her magically induced slumber).
As soon as the two opponents were beaten, the Herald took his time to fool around with the group. The angriest of the bunch was most surely Vorador.
"WHAT HAPPENED TO ARIEL!?"
He screamed. But the Herald paid no mind to his shouting. Vorador, overcome by grief, cast an offensive spell once more; once more resulting in the dark presence just scoffing at it and dispelling it away.
Brimelle quietly turned her back to the scene.
"I have nothing to do with the Herald. I am letting you deal with him, I have no interests whatsoever. Have fun, I will be waiting outside."
This being said, with an air of indifference, the centaur left the distortion returning to the material place, waiting for the rest of her party.
