"So, what now?"
Brimelle was pacing up and down the grove which Aaon had just summoned, right where they had just fought the two evil opponents. She trotted around, looking at the various plants that adorned that place, picking some of the fruits, nibbling at the berries. Kon es Kaz looked at her before answering in a weary voice: he had just finished burying the corpses of the two enemies.
"Well, the plan is to go to Panthalas."
"I did not mean that." Brimelle stopped her wandering and neared the minotaur. "I meant, what do we do with Distusting."
The centauress pointed at the gully dwarf, still encased in the cold embrace of the magic metal sword of the warrior.
"It's fairly simple." answered the minotaur. "We bring him to Palanthas and then let the authorities deal with it."
"But he is just a gully dwarf!"
"Yes, but he was working for those two knights of Neraka, which means that he is evil!"
Brimelle gave a quick glance at the gully dwarf: he was quivering in the grip of the sword while mucus flowed from his nostrils and stained his ragged clothes and beard. His face was twisted in an agonizing fashion, the kind of expression somebody who's family had just been murdered in front of their eyes would have.
"... He does not seem that evil, to me."
"So what, he attacked and almost killed Aliranne!" Kon es Kaz tightened the grip on the hilt. "That's what we call -evil- where I come from."
"But he did not do it on purpose! The knights told him to!" The bard looked in the direction of Aaon who was just meditating in the middle of the grove. "Aaon, please, can you give me a hand?"
The druid shrugged opening his eyes slightly, regarding the two with a cold stare.
"I do not wish to meddle into such an argument."
Brimelle sighed, returning to pace up and down the grove, giving up on the whole matter and waiting for the others to return.
Vorador and Aliranne came back a few hours after the sun had set. They told the others how the negotiation went and then proceeded to divide the reward evenly between the party members.
"It's fairly late. We can rest this night and then head to Palanthas tomorrow morning." Said Vorador, slipping into his sleeping bag. "This way, we'll reach the city in a couple of days."
"Sounds good to me.. well, see you in the morning." Murmured Aliranne, falling into a peaceful slumber.
"G'night." Answered Kon es Kaz, waiting for his turn on the night watch to start.
The morning after, the party was already on his way to Palanthas. They had exited the grove and directed themselves back to the main road, walking towards the city. They were all fairly in a good mood aside for Aliranne, who looked slightly worried, and Kon es Kaz, who was angry at Vorador because he used his horse to bring the cart back to Solanthus and now they didn't have one horse left.
"Oh, come on, we can always buy another one in Palanthas." Came the mystic.
"Yeah, but this will take us forever anyway to arrive at the city." Replied the minotaur.
"Which reminds me," intervened Brimelle, absent-minded. "That the city is under Neraka's control."
An awkward lull fell over the party, once again. Vorador's eyes were completely open, staring at Brimelle with a look that meant "Why did you do it.."
"THE CITY OF PALANTHAS IS UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE KNIGHTS OF NERAKA?!?!"
"I-I am sorry! I thought thou knew!" Stuttered Brimelle, taken aback by the minotaur gone berserk.
"Why is it, " he raged on. "that every time there's something important that I should know, you don't tell me?!?"
"I am really sorry! I though it was common knowledge!"
"Oh, shut up, will you?" Uttered Aliranne, walking right past the two arguing companions and reaching the lead position in the line. "We've been to Tarsis already, this won't be any different."
Kon and Brimelle stopped arguing with eachother and looked at Aliranne with dazed confusion.
"Aliranne, " finally came the minotaur. "Are you ok? You seem a bit.. off."
The mage sighed, slowing down her pace.
"Yes, I'm ok. I'm just a little worried, that's all."
"It's because of what Serafema told you? Is it about the Trial?"
Aliranne nodded slightly. Brimelle caught it and she asked, as her eyes went back and forth from Vorador to the mage.
"Wait, which trial?"
The red dressed girl sighed once more. "The Test of High Sorcery, which other?"
"Oh. But I thought you had done it already, you're wearing the red robes!"
Aliranne turned around, giving her back to the road ahead. She pointed at her pieces of clothing.
"This is a red crop top, this is a red skirt. No robe."
"Oh." Brimelle blushed. "Well, I guess I am not that familiar to dresses in general: we centaurs usually go around naked."
Aliranne nodded. "It's ok. Now lets' get back to our main mission."
She turned around, going down the road, while the others followed her.
"CAW CAW CA-CAW!"
Muninn kept flying in circles over the head of his mage, cawing and coughing at the same time, as if he had something stuck in his throat.
"What in the Abyss do you feed your crow with?" Asked Kon es Kaz, looking at the spazzing creature.
"Kon, this is not an animal, it's a familiar, it's a piece of my sou-" Aliranne stopped in her explanation remembering what happened last time she tried to explain what a scroll was to the minotaur.
"Well, he sure is not doing that well."
The party kept their head high, observing the raving crow as he flew over the trees only to reappear a few moments later, still coughing, still cawing.
"Muninn, come here!" called Aliranne.
The crow finally landed on the mage's arm, opening his mouth in front of her.
"He has some sort of... circular thing in there.."
Aliranne tried to catch what was obstructing the crow's throat with her hand, succeeding. She was able to bring the whole thing out of the familiar, revealing what seemed to be a magic scroll. The mage opened it and started reading, silently. After a long pause, she finally uttered:
"It's from the mages of the Towers."
The whole group gasped. She continued.
"It says that it's time for me to begin the Trial. There's a teleportation spell on the other side of the paper... I need to summon a spectral being and then... the trial will begin."
Another long silence filled the air. The forest sounds tried to cover it, but failed. Only Vorador had the courage to say anything.
"We're coming with you."
Aliranne looked at him, incredulous. "You don't have to."
"But we want to." Came Brimelle, smiling warmly. "We are thy party members, but we are also ty friends."
"Yes, and we would never leave a poor fair lady alone to sustain such a dangerous perilous trial!" Added Kon es Kaz.
"We are with you." Nodded Aaon.
"Yes, me too!!" yelled Disgusting.
Kon es Kaz looked down at the gully dwarf, then looked at Brimelle. He sighed. He raised his sword arm, launching the gully dwarf in front of him, opening the magic grip only when he knew that Disgust had enough momentum to fly over the top of the trees. The gully dwarf flew over the party, landing so far away that the sound of the leaves being crushed by his weight was barely audible.
"Ok, all set!" He yelled as if he had done nothing. "We can go!"
Aliranne nodded raising the scroll in front of her.
"Touch me or you'll stay behind." She warned the others who promptly put their hands in contact with eachother. They could also clearly feel the presence of some kind of invisible creature among them, probably an invisible servant summoned by the mage herself as the parchment had told her to do.
"Here we go!"
Aliranne started chanting the spell for the teleportation scroll which began glowing in a white light, blinding the group completely.
A few moments after, the road was empty.
They were gone.
