Oh, I know Rick! He was a guest at a con I staffed in Montreal many years ago; that particular convention's "thing" was having guests that were extremely influential but not as "visible" as the on-screen actors. We decided it would be fun to invite designers from Star Trek as guests and invited him and Mike Okuda. It was a great choice, they were awesome guests.
Did he ever complete the model? Love to see what he did, the EDF aerodynes are one of those cool, iconically "economical" and workable designs kind of like the "Eagles" from "Space 1999".
This is why I'm glad I don't have the workspace, I keep thinking it'd make an awesome diorama, the AFV's surrounding the downed 'dyne. I love damaged/wrecked/abandoned vehicles, they tell so much more of a story than a pristine new one.

Rick was a total fan of Albedo way back when, even took me on the lot at Paramount way back when during STNG. He even did up a photo cover for one of the Albado issues, shot on Capt. Piccard's desk. More recently, he had done up a bunch of 3-D printed Mars landscapes and may still be doing decal sheets for real space subjects.
I imagine he was attracted to what attracted a lot of us to Albedo: it was the rare instance of a science-fiction comic that tried to have a fair bit more science to it than fiction when it came to the story and designs. And I remember seeing that cover!
Speaking of 3D printing, now that I think of it, the aerodynes and AFV's *would* lend themselves to 3D printing ...at least the major hull components...

I remember that cover! Makes me wonder where my copies of ALBEDO are..., somewhere in my semi-disorganized library.
That cover might have been why I asked you to do my commission of Erma (still not posted on my FA page..., on my 'to do' list) standing in a darkened ST-like office looking out at the starscape.
