If I can just squeeze in among the endless voice memes here, here's a song that's been endlessly done instead...
A year or so after the rest of the world, I just completed Portal a couple of nights ago - I've never before seen a game with so much charm to it that's simultaneously so... wrong. The manic AI plot has been done to death so much that it's a cliche at this point, but they managed to give it so much personality that it was something unique again... and those turrets with the child voices saying "are you still there" as they search for you are going to haunt my nightmares.
And this is a version of the ending song by Jonathan Coulton - an unusual reward for completing a game, but it rounds off its humour perfectly. Maybe this is what it would sound like if done by an Amiga musician?
This was probably my quickest project ever, done in about five hours. It follows the same lyrics as the original, but the instrumentation is... different.

Well, you know the words.

Ah, I love it when that happens :)
I think I might well become a fanboy of it too, even though I was so late in playing through it - I only got it because it was $5 from Steam over Christmas. But I can see how it grabbed people - it's got a lot of personality. And the developer comments at the end are very interesting for... people like me - Valve seem to have a strangely close connection with their audience, something that's mostly disappeared as the game industry got bigger.

I agree. Valve pushes out good games that appease to their gamers. Most industries just make games for everyone. Valve seems make games only for those who follow them. Intuitive games, like Portal, and just really fun games like TF2. Another thing that Valve NEVER fails at, is making sure ALL of their games have SOMETHING to do with Half-Life.
ya, the game kinda confused me......more the physics to it, I think I gt stuck on level 12 or something.....I can't remember, but I loved the game, but was too stupid to beat its physics. But it was endeed enjoyable and fun. And your song makes it really interesting, bringing life back to the song (listened to it a thousand times, and now hearing this version of it makes it seem interesting again XD)
I think I'm becoming obsessed with it too, after just hearing it for the first time a couple of nights ago - I don't think I've felt compelled to try and imitate a song so quickly before! It started when I looked up the chords, then began experimenting with those in Modplug and seeing if I could apply my own style over the top of it... I'm glad to know that you think it worked, thanks again for commenting!
They tend to be on the spot - sometimes I get the urge to play about with converting a song to my style, but I've only ever uploaded a couple of them that I thought worked well enough to be done up as full "covers". However, I might think about taking suggestions in the future, as I said to :vulpineru: below.
