I kept forgetting to upload this one xD;;;
The commissioner specifically asked for a lightsaber with a wide blade. Once again I find myself wondering why that isn't a think in Star Wars? I've seen a couple designs for lightsabers found in the other media outside the movies but there's a couple ones that seem so obvious to at least question that I didn't find evidence of.
Maybe it just doesn't matter since it's a beam of unstoppable limb-amputations anyways but that also seems like an equally good argument in favor of lightsabers being in any shape possible. *shrug*

I imagine the problem against wider blades lies with how difficult it is to shape and contain the plasma, with a circular cross-section being the easiest to maintain (or just how they form naturally).
But then again, lightsaber whips exist in Legends, and those are an affront to all things good and holy.

The saber looks really good. The wider blade would be slick for Form I combat with broad slashes and simple parries. I think the sleeves might be a bit impractical and flammable in close proximity to limb cutting Plasma tho.
If they can do that stupid dark saber in Clone Wars (originally meant to be a vibro-blade I think) why not something simpler? At least the pointy sabers in Rebels look better than the thick blades like clubs in Clone Wars.

Now all we need is a Sith with a 6 feet long light-saber and then we'll have the equivalent of a Cloud vs Sephiroth showdown! =P
Just supposition here, but maybe blades of light sabers don't get bigger because of power supply limitations? Like they can't fit batteries powerful enough in the handles? No ideas though.
