New drawing over one of my old photos.
Addendum: I seem to recall that this photo was taken about 3:00 in the morning when the place was empty. This is Bate's Hamburgers in Livonia, Michigan, a favorite haunt of mine. I was living downtown in Detroit at the time, and always considered the burgers there to be worth the trip. Part of my car can be seen at the lower right corner, a 1976 Chevette.
The He-Man breakfast advertised in the window consisted of 3 eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and coffee, all for $1.99. Different times, indeed.

little place with weird smelling and tasting food got a Dinner like that in my home town... No Idea how they stay in business with such low prices full Meal burger and fries milkshake 5 bucks funny thing it is painted just like this greasy spoon Mike.... mind you McDonald sells a 3 dollar Happy meal I have had them there is no fiber and I get plugged up for three days from one Happy meal
I like it Kaz. It reminds me of the many nights in my youth when I'd find myself out late at night, walking along old Route 66, and discovering I have just enough change in my pocket for a small meal. (Sigh.) The days of the $1.99 "He Man" special are long gone, I'm afraid.
A friend of mine, his uncle told us a funny Chevette story
These guys were motorheads from Detroit, he was driving a Chevette and they blew a head gasket.. so they pulled over, got a motel room and did an engine rebuild right there in the motel room! the 4 cylinder engine in the chevette was so light they got it out with the two of them and carried it up to the room
Completely fucked that whole room up, as you could imagine!
He said they put the hotel towels over the giant black oil stain and fled!

This is extant. Thanks for representing Detroit, whether you're still here or not!
