Meet the Archereon, original species and design by me.
In short, these are a species consisting of both plant and reptile dna that has the ability to live on a carnivorous diet or photosynthesize with the many solar patches on it's body.
The solar patches are all places where the hide, or scales of the Archeron have flaked off to reveal the chloroplasts in the secondary epidermis level. These scales can grow back in place, or flake off to reveal more patches in times where they need more nutrients from the sun.
The tail consists of three heavy vines. The vines rarely unravel and at the end are covered in large spores. The spores when dropped into another plant organism, will cling to the new host, and will steal the nutrients from the growing plant, collecting it's traits, and it will continue to parasite off of the host until it reaches a certain age of maturity where it can leave on it's own and survive. It can then photosynthesize on it's own. This is one of two ways the Archereon species can breed. It is compatible with plant as well as most reptile recipient breeding pairs.
The head of an Archereon is designed to split into four main parts like a flower and it's petals, opening wide tio reveal a single row of very fine but very sharp teeth. The teeth are venomized and the bite of an Archereon is indeed lethal.
The frill on the Archereon is used in mating displays as well as acts of defense and combat. It is used as a scare tactic, reflecting brilliant colors that confuse and hypnotize prey. Also, the frill is the most effective solar energy absorbing part of the Archereon's body.
Thanks for reading ;)
