Football Cubs episode 28 - The magic of the cup!
Anything can be magical if you use your imagination! Even an old cup!
Football primer: Running alongside the league games, the FA Cup (FA stands for Football Association, not Fur Affinity) is the world's oldest football competition - even older than the football league! It's a knockout competition, and what makes it special is that it's open to basically every single team in the country, with qualifying rounds starting in August for teams who play in little local leagues and building up to Premier League teams joining the fun in January. We're now down to the last sixteen survivors of the 736 clubs who've taken part this season!
The FA Cup isn't considered as such a big deal as it used to be, it's not as important to big clubs as the league or the European competitions are, but people still like to talk about 'the magic of the cup'. Arsenal have won it for the last two years, and nobody's won three in a row since the nineteenth century, so maybe they can make a little history here!
