This is the final art for my new book, The Tears of Medusa, cropped and formatted to fit the Amazon Kindle. Included is the title, using the Toplar type-font, created in 3D Studio MAX, beveled, textured and lit along with the art using a same spotlight illuminating Medusa, augmented by a omni bottom and top light. By using 3D, I avoid the problems of artificially sorting out the lights and shadows, plus the Blinn texturing gives it the soft metallic look I was after. The overall piece is an amalgam of 2D (Flash and Photoshop) and 3D modeling and lighting. The snake hair and overall design borrows heavily from the work of Alphonse Mucha. (Thanks Al!) Hope you like it.

Thanks. This piece stretched my usual cartoony preferences, but it was impossible to totally expunge my animator-roots. If I did this in real paint, I likely would have done it using a cel and cel-vinyl paint to get the same look. But I'm glad I can use digital art and my trusty old Wacom tablet. At least my fingers stay cleaner.
I was under for a long time on this project. So many mistakes to correct and re-writes... So many re-writes! Now I have to finish book two, which seems to be progressing faster. I guess books and pancakes have something in common after all! http://www.furaffinity.net/themes/c.....ilies/wink.png
