I don't always get commissions about birds where they has to be showcased with real towns and featuring tourist advertisement for their benefit, but when I do, I put my knowledge of background rendering methods and an army of layers! I was wondering Photoshop did not crash on me with this piece yet, but I am glad with the final result! =)

I think I have it figured out. That bright, large cloud on the right broadens and rises off the image like the wind is pushing it and no matter where you look at the sky that cloud is still within view, but the effect is strongest when you are looking at or around that cloud. It's a look that we associate with movement and gives it the appearance of being pushed. A sort of optical illusion. It's tricking the brain. Our whole lives we see clouds moving that way so we're seeing what we expect. Hope that didn't sound too stupid... It would be easy enough to duplicate this effect.
this is seriously some god-tier work. all parts of it are excellent but my two favorite parts are the clear body language and expressions between them telling a story and how the style in which the characters are drawn doesn't contrast harshly with the background as often happens in drawings with more detailed and/or realistic backgrounds. it's clear you cared a great deal about what you were doing here.
The commission is lovely, romantic, touching and detailed!
The background scene is amazing! I love all the little attention to detail in order to illustrate the seaside Italian town of Monterosso.
I love the character interaction between Manu and Kalena.
twilightstormshi really captures one of my favourite aspects of the artwork.
Thanks for helping me tell the life's story of Manu Koa and Kalena Pau. It is greatly appreciated.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the commission so very very much!!

Italy must be fun! I have only been to the northern side of it in the Alps for a couple of skiing. Oh I do love skiing, the speed, and the heights... Like you would be flying, but almost! =)
TwilightStormshi captured that just right, and I wasn't expecting someone would give a compliment on that part of the picture this fine, and with such an observation, and that meant a lot.
It has been an honor working for you on this and I am glad this worked out well! I am hoping I can take more in the future. =)
