While perusing the barefooter lifestyle newsgroups for some info (Neichelle is the only member of my character group who doesn't wear shoes--or much of anything else for that matter), I came across the assertion that walking through mud while barefoot feels pretty good. Tina reflects this as she expresses the sensation of mud forcing its way between her toes as her feet sink into the muck. I tried to convey this wordlessly as best as I could, but it came out a little awkward with the dark-colored word balloon.

I also learned from anecdotes on these newsgroups that without shoes, you also don't have problems getting stuck. Experiments on my part verified the stories, and although you'll sink deeper without shoes (and your heels will try to sink faster), it's trivially easy to pull one's feet free of deep mud, with no suction effects at all. So Tina's free to plow ahead once she loses that other shoe.
