Random Dragon Tutorial
So,
Ra-Meil asked if I could do a tutorial on different views of a dragon body, and this is what I came up with. It's not the best tutorial, but I wanted to help as best I could. This is how I draw the dragon body. Not everyone draws it like this, and I more than likely got some things wrong (especially in the front facing view. I suck at those)
So, here's the steps I go through (I'll include digital and traditional steps since I do both)
Digital:
Step 1;
Draw a Head, Torso, and Hips bubble, then a Line of Motion connecting the bubbles.
The bubbles indicate where the three parts of your dragon will be, and the line of motion will the the way the dragon moves. This is the most basic step in me drawing my dragons.
Step 2;
Do a rough sketch on a different layer(also preferably in a different color so you can see what you're drawing. I use green and red as my sketching colors).
This step can be as messy as you want since it IS a rough sketch. You're basically just drawing in the body shape you want your dragon to have. No real detail is put into this step unless there is something specific that needs to be included (like the general placement of the eyes and such. I didn't include that in this tutorial since it's just for the body)
Step 3;
Draw your final lines on a new layer. I do draw my final lines in either red or green, but I always change them to black once I'm done drawing. In this stage, you add all of the details your dragon needs, like horns, spikes, manes/fur, etc. Since this is going to be your 'final lines' it's alright to take your time to ensure that they don't look messy like in the rough sketch.
For traditional drawers, you're not going to be able to use layers (obviously c; ) so what you do is your draw your framework LIGHTLY on the paper. Holding your pencil closer to the eraser will help make sure you don't draw dark lines.
After that, draw your rough sketch SLIGHTLY DARKER than the frame work, then ERASE the framework, so all you're left with is the sketch.
Then, DARKEN the lines you want to keep and fix things up here and there and add the details your dragon has. After that, erase any stray marks that might be present, and tada~
You have drawn a dragon body! (hopefully. I suck at tutorials .___. )
