Equilibrium of Lugias
Gift for a friend. I've not followed Pokemon all that much since 2000, and I think I only ever watched the original series and one of the earlier movies, but I've always liked the design of Lugia.
Deep in the ocean, there lived a lugia who called itself She. In the depths She battled and survived, for the deepest of oceans are a dangerous place, but She knew no other place. She had no one to guide her, and no one to protect her, and no one to care for her as she grew. Her fear made her angry and fierce, and her loneliness made her cold. And in the dark depths, she grew a shade darker.
One day, She woke to find a gyarados before her, who confessed to her his adoration and in her loneliness she did not question his affection as he drew closer and laid against her in the depths, and told her that he was meant for She. And in that time, he showed She everything he said that could be love, and though She thought there should be more, She soon believed his every word. But his love was false and controlling, and vain to all ends, and though he paid her attention he spoke of nothing and cared of nothing but his own self and desires. She resigned herself that true happiness was not for She, and followed loyally as he lead her one day out of her trench and into a reef. But in exchange for his own life, he had promised to find a replacement, and She was meant to pay his debt to a swarm of tentacruel. He fled her as She first was stung, and all of her broke as his betrayal was realized. The sea pulsed as a lugia changed, her eyes burning like flame of red, and body darkening to a blackest shade. In her anger and her pain, she laid the swarm low, and returned to her trench to brood.
As years passed by, her darkness remained, and her heart had turned cold. And when She could take no more, she turned her anger to the world. From her trench She rose again, and began to battle all She saw, leaving a trail of destruction in her wake. All was not well within the seas, and so it came that She found herself surrounded by a wall of sudden current, so strong that it pushed her back. From above, another approached, a Lugia like herself, but pure in his silvery scales and sea blue fins, and she looked at herself and saw what she had become. But her trust had been broken, and her heart was still cold, and she engaged him in battle not wishing to hear his demands. The battle was long, until finally he held her down and looked into her eyes.
She saw something for the first time, something she had only thought she knew but had never understood. Compassion and worry, not for himself. Despite all the wounds he incurred, he was worried about her and his gentle eyes told that without words. Her fighting stopped, and she stared at his eyes.
"Who are you?" She asked him, "That you do not hate me."
"I am called He," the other replied in a voice like a song, "And I have sought one like you forr a very long time."
He let her go, and sat back with his tail in the sand. "You may go, if you wish, as long as you stop this destruction. But I would like to know you."
She sat for a moment dumbstruck. No one, not even the one she had been betrayed by had wanted to know her better. Yet this stranger was showing her kindness and was asking about her. Her suspicions and fears took over and she turned her back to him.
"I do not know what you want, but no one cares about me, especially a stranger. Tell me why I should stay, or I shall leave."
With a flick of his wings and a swish of his tail, the silvery one was before her again. He looked in her eyes so she could see He was sincere as He told her his story of loveless despair. He too had been betrayed, though not as severely, and struggled to keep himself pure so he would not scare off another. He felt loneliness too, and had long given up finding another like himself to share his life with. But then He had heard of a Lugia that had been betrayed and turned cold, and searched for a long time to find She to meet her.
Her glowing red eyes filled with sadness as he spoke to her kindly, with a gentle brush of his wing against hers. "Only one who has been broken can understand and free me, and only someone who understands pain can truly heal you. Let me show you my world, and forget the pains of your trench. I will care for you, and comfort you, and never abandon you if only you let me get to know you. For I am He who is lonely, and you are She who is in need of a friend."
To her own surprise She lept and embraced him, crying for the first in a very long time, and She felt his hug drain some of her darkness, and for the first time knew She was feeling true love. He knew that he would never need to try for perfection, and felt free to finally show the scars of his pain. Her red eyes glowed blue like the pure eyes that he had, while his took the red glow that had plagued her facade. Together their eyes matched with a combined purple, and her blackest violet turning bright too, while the pure blue of his fins and chest darkened and his silver grew tarnished with dark streaks, the scars of his past.
Together they live, deep in the ocean, together forever in happiness now.
