Well... here it is, finished at last!! Many of you have been following the WIP shots of this (thanks for your continued encouragement by the way, it's been a long haul for sure!), so you'll be glad to see that it was finally completed and is now safely installed in its new home :3
If you haven't been watching my Scraps, a quick explanation: some good friends of mine run a very small music recording studio locally, and commissioned me to do a 6'x12' mural on one wall of the studio, featuring the whole motley crew of DJs, promoters, party animals and assorted hangers-on (most of whom are also friends of mine). Rather than paint the whole thing there, since I knew it'd be a major project and I don't have a car to get there and back, I decided to do it on a huuuge canvas, which I taped to one wall of my apartment. I've been slowly chipping away at this thing for about eight months (you can find the WIP shots here!) and now it's finally done!!
Unfortunately, the photo session I did at my parents' house didn't go as well as I thought it had - I was exhausted at the time, having spent a week straight hammering away at this to get it finished once it was so close to being done, and I didn't notice that the photos I was taking were of a much lower resolution than they should have been >.< So I did some Photoshop touch-ups and was able to put together this web-sized image to share with you all, but my plan to make prints will have to wait until I can get some better photos. And if you're thinking this looks a little grainy still, I'm afraid that's why!
Anyway, to sum up: 6 foot by 12 foot canvas, acrylic paints (plus the Photoshop tweaks to make it look purdy on a computer monitor), and I dunno, like a ZILLION hours XD Seriously I have no idea how long this took, I wasn't keeping track. A long-ass f***ing time x__x

It's pieces like this that renew my faith in the artistry I aspire to be a part of. I left traditional media a long time ago, so I'd be hard pressed to catch up to this kind fo skill, but monster projects and wonderful results like this inspire more works like it and that's something you can be very proud of.
You better pat yourself on the back, because art like this is becoming a rare thing. Grats on pulling this off!

Thank you so very much! Big projects like this have always inspired me, too, so it was hugely rewarding to finally create one of my own. And it is fun to return to paint and canvas every once in a while, now that all my usual artwork is entirely digital. As much as digital art is easier, faster, more versatile and - at least in my case - ends up looking better... there's just something satisfying about splashing real paint around sometimes!
Absolutely incredible!!! I hope you really got paid well enough for it, even if the cost per hour likely went to infinitesimal amounts (see: Zillion Hours).
And now your living room is yours again. Actually, it's Tigorilla's too now. :)
That studio better realise that any of us visiting Victoria will want to drop in to see this in situ now! *grin*

Thank you!! <3 Heh, unfortunately I wasn't being paid by the hour really (well, unfortunately for me, the studio might have bankrupted themselves if I had been though so perhaps it's for the best! XP); I have no idea how many hours it really was, but I'm pretty sure I went quite a lot over my time budget for it XD Oh well... totally worth it!!
And yep... we couldn't wait to reclaim our apartment after having this thing dominate it for so long!

Fantastic, it must be a breathtaking sight in RL! :-D I can only hope I'll dare painting something so large and complex one day!
And it's very good it's made on a canvas because honestly it would have been a waste to paint is a mural which one day would have been destroyed if the owners relocated.

Exactly!! I've already done several smaller pieces for that studio on various walls there... but I didn't really think about those risks until they started talking about doing renos, and trying to come up with a way to remove an entire wall (with the mural intact) and just put it somewhere else :S
There's a couple of people I haven't heard from yet (only people I don't really know anyway), but everyone else's reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. The joy it's brought to all my friends is one of the best rewards for me (gosh that sounds sappy, but it's true!)
Hee, thank you!!! <3 <3 <3 Glad you enjoyed the progress shots, I always like watching something big like this slowly come together ^_^
Everyone is totally over the moon about it, haha. I think the only people who aren't delighted with it are the people I couldn't squeeze in XD

Eight months...wow. That's a huge investment of time, energy and dedication. Huge props to you just on that end.
To the picture itself, I love the possum on the left especially; the anatomy is so spot on that it's stunning. Everyone's facial expressions, the lemur leaning down to reach for the kangaroo rat (I think), the unhappy panda in a chokehold, the skunk with his bong...I could go on. Just amazing. They better take you out for dinner and a bunch of drinks and the tigorilla as well for putting up with all the smell of paint.
