Ah. Another year, another picture. I kind of feel I have a curse about these pictures. I always do them in hope the new year will be a better one and it usually isn't. Last 5 years have been very trying and featured family loss, endless job hopping/hunting an a ridiculous amount of moving. In the last 5 years me and my partner have lived in 4 different places all in the hunt for the elusive jobs we worked so hard to get degrees for. It's stupid.
And this year has started and it was very much looking to be a good one. But the same bloody pattern has emerged that has happened the last good 4 years over - The new year starts, we're 'settled' somewhere. Then my boyfriend gets either unfairly dismissed/contract is terminated/he is made redundant form his job. And with me only ever seeming to have a low paying part-time retail/food/ass wiping job that can't support us, we are once again looking at jobs and the fact we may have to move.
It's so frustrating because every new year we promise that we'll simply do better. But frankly the system is broken. The job market is a world full of people who rather you'd work for nothing and if you want a full paying job, you must be a person in your 20's with something like 10 years experience already. Otherwise is just plain luck of the draw. I've met so many dodgy employers too. Especially in low-paying jobs. I'm lucky right now that my retail job has some of the best management ever. But it's still a part-time minimum wage job.
My boyfriend has been lucky to secure jobs related to his degree with more luck than me, but it's taken it's toll. Now his latest job have fired him under really suspicious circumstances. It's simply not fair for someone that dedicated to his degree and job. The company clearly was trying to downsize and blaming him was an easy option.
What makes this all worse is that it seems to be happening to EVERYONE. Which means we can't find a solution asides form keep rolling with the punches.
So here is to the Monkey year. You know, the monkey king never played by the rules and frankly we may have to take a leaf out of his book. What's the point of playing by the rules if they're rigged an broken? Frankly- we just want to have a god time. we're not immortal after all. Maybe we can channel our jaded feel sing into something else. But we wouldn't be artists otherwise would we? :B
BUT despite our misgivings, I hope you all have a great new year and a successful one at that.
