Doing what they do best, for
Sgt_Andrews!
Thanks again - excellent timing on this one as I've just started replaying MISERY, haha.
STALKER / Bloodsuckers are to GSC Gameworld originally, and I believe they've required the IP (woo).

You should start with Shadow of Chernobyl, then Clear Sky then Call of Pripyat. They're not in chronological but they were released in that order.
As for mods, I would for my first play through stick with stock ( But patch them up to the latest, good god please do that. ) but really the amount of mods for S.T.A.L.K.E.R is quite large, honestly if you're REALLY wanting to mod it, first time mod would probably be The Complete mods ( Which some people might argue, that's just my personal opinion. ) but really play stock before modding it, you'll get more of an appreciation for the mods if you do.
As for tips. Well I can list a few simple tips really.
1) Keep your Inventory Organised.
Everything has weight to it, you might see that ammo only weighs like 0.001kg but when you suddenly have 3000 of it, it adds up. There's Stash Boxes at major resting points, keeping your medical, ammo etc there is advised and leaving only the bare essentials. For example, I keep about 5 - 10 Medpacks ( Each kind if I can, depending on what sort of Medpacks I have depends on how many I take. ) 5 - 10 bandages, 5 of each Drug if I'm able to and 2 Vodkas. ( Vodka weighs a shit load ) etc.
2) Unload Weapons you Pick up.
Keeping weapons to sell is mainly not very productive, ammo from fallen enemies and artifacts are really your main source of income. At the start you can get away from it, but after awhile it's better to stick to anything but weapons and armor to sell.
3) Have Multiple Weapons for Multiple Situations.
Most of the time you can get away with whatever weapons, but if you really want to be prepared have different weapons for different situations. I generally have a Shotgun and an Assault Rifle on me. ( NATO or Slav, doesn't really matter ) But often I'll have a Long Ranged Rifle from mid game onwards due to things becoming more urban focused. But weapon preference is up to you, generally a shotgun for Mutants and some sort of Rifle for Humans is the way to go.
4) Beware of Radiation and Throw Bolts Everywhere!
If you hear the Beeps, be wary! Often enough you'll be running along and suddenly a bad radiation patch or an Anomaly. So throw bolts and pay attention to the your Geiger Counter sounds and your Anomaly Detector Sounds as well. While you're at it, if you're in a patch of Anomalies, bring out your Artifact Detector and quickly see if there's any Artifacts about!
That's really all I can think of currently, if there's anything else someone else will no doubt add on to it.
