Sort of a bit along the lines of what evilbugz said... you come down on yourself and call an art piece an "epic fail" before you've really even gotten the thing finished. Main thing I know from experience (and this is what tends to trip me up personally about art, story writing, and anything that involves creativity)...
It takes time... quite a BIT of time to get an art piece done... to see it through from start to finish. My guess is that might be why many artists out here tend to put up art pieces that are WIP images only after they have the linework art down the way they feel they wanted to get it to look.
Also, art is something for the meticulous and methodical... or, to put another way... those who can sometimes go a bit Obsessive/Compulsive over getting the look down "just right".
Or, to put it another way... much they once said in car TV ad from recent years... Its it all about "the relentless pursuit of perfection".
My point here is this... just keep trying... and keep pushing yourself to be your best and do your best... that's really about all any of us can do anyway. And, hey.... listen... if you honestly find it still doesn't come out very good... well, look... at least you tried your best, and that most definitely IS still worth something.
*Hugs* Now a song for you...
*Quoting song from the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit...
"Smile! Damn, ya' smile! You know this old world is a great world after all..."
Heheh. *Shrugs* NEVER stop believing in yourself, Tram. Please???

Oh, oh... btw... just in case you now have Inkscape installed, and you wanna do a linetrace to smooth out linework, here's how that's done.... simply open your lineart image under Inkscape... select the entire image, and use the "trace bitmap" function.
There's also a few options that can be tweaked slightly as far as how the trace process works, but even at it's default settings, it smoothes the jagged edged look to lineart pretty nicely.
Once your lineart is dark and nicely smoothed, then coloring it in digitally can take place.
