Second use of thise charming pose.
I never had much to do with the Hippie scene. It was a little too early and I was only about 18 when it was all but over. In the 70's, though, the hippie myth grew into a groovy world of cute willing chicks, great music, harmless recreational drugs, and outrageous clothing. I know as well as the next person that it was only a fantasy, and the real counterculture wasn't like that. But one can have fun with it anyway.

I missed out of the whole hippie thing to the extent of being essentially unaware of it - probably not an uncommon situation then. Instead the big thing down here at the time was the big Civil Rights & Wrongs movement and all its sideshow activities, some quite nasty.
I don't think there were ever very many actual hippies, nor were there many places where they could be found -- mainly Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, Fire Island near New York (I think), and doubtless in Chicago and LA (but I don't know the names). Toronto had a tiny hippie neighborhood... one street downtown that was maybe four blocks long, called Yorkville Street. Most people probably only knew anything about hippies through the largely hostile media.
