*chuckles* Well that's not what dad would say after he was stationed in France when he was in the military, but that was like 40 years ago and his opinions of the french well aren't as politically correct or as matching reality as they could. but given he's 71 such thoughts aren't hard to understand or forgive because of it.

I don't think that it has changed. But the cultures are what they are, and sometimes some awful misunderstandings simply and purely ruin the relations.
I hope that your dad enjoyed his journey on the Old Continent =)

Well I've never gotten him to say anything good but he grew up hard so doesn't see the good stuff in life (for example all he could see in the military was the officers getting the perks, like prostitutes supplied to them so they wouldn't have to go without like the enlisted men had to). All our countries have good and bad sides and he just couldn't let himself enjoy all the nice stuff your country has to offer. God knows I'd have loved visiting it and in High School ended up with TWO french pen pals for a while due to a mix-up in joining a pen pal program through my french teacher (they also set me up with an Italian girl who illustrated her letters with a range of artwork in the margins that I enjoyed, and I think the other girl was Austrian).
