One of the 14 elemental runes of Ceal.
The Yaera Rune represents the element most frequently associated with ice. Yaera can be associated with coldness, conservation, inertness and patience.
The Yaera Rune consists of a regular octagram. The angles contained within this rune are 135°, 90° and 45°. This highly symmetrical rune has 8 axes of symmetry and a rotational symmetry of 45°.
Yaera is the most inert element of all, and working with it takes patience. Once invoked Yaera tends to be a very precice element that can be used to create even tiny, filligrane structures at a microscopic level, and make accute mannipulations on that scale.
It is also favoured among rational thinkers for its ability to induce a cool and detached state. It can also be used to defuse several varieties of volatile situations which can range from defusing a bomb to calming an angry mob. It's conservational properties are also a strong asset, protecting matter of any kind from decompensation.

It's also known as the octagram of creation in Gnostic tradition, and is often put in relation to the planet Venus as the goddess of fertility, for instance in Latvian mythology, where it represents the god Auseklis, or in Mapuche iconography, where it is called "Guñelve" or the Star of Arauco. Apart from that, it has been used in nordic countries as an invocation of magic and a protecting ideogram carved into doors and walls.
Within the world of Ceal, however, it holds a slightly different meaning, as described above.

It is your opinion that it is wrong to adapt previously used symbols into a new lore system, and use them in a new meaning.
I, however, disagree. This is something that has been countless times before in history - say, when the wiccan neo religious movement founded in 1954 by Gerald Gardner adopted a variety of old gnostic symbols, among which the octagram was but one of many - thus carrying on the spirit of the past into the future. Thus, I see no wrong done here, especially considering that I was not consciously aware of any of these associations when I first created the Yaera Rune many years ago. Hence, I believe that the octagram is an archetype etched deep into our collective unconsciousness, possibly bearing a hidden meaning.
Now, the question that is really interesting here is, why would I associate this symbol with ice, when others associate it with the morning star or fertility? This is something I can't quite explain. It's instinctive, and I know it's the right choice. Maybe my lack of previous knowledge at the time of its creation enabled me to interpret, or possibly uncover a new layer in this age-old sign? Naturally, this is pure speculation, but isn't it always vague leads like these that eventually lead to grand discoveries?
Anyway, I must continue now. There are still a number of runes I wish to upload, and once again, all of these were drawn up by intuition. Should you so desire, you can check them and see if there are any other coincidental matches there.
Until then, be of great cheer!
