Sitting at Blade's side was Kiya, who, when they got to Red Chrome village made sure his body was well tended to. He'd heard the stories from Blade back during the tournament, how Red Chrome village had been destroyed by his older brother Hilt. For what purpose did he do so though...Only broken pieces of buildings remained. What few were left standin would not be a suitable shelter.
Overnight, Blade had come out with a high fever, not having woken for three days straight. And the closest water supply was two miles below, in a small stream at the edge of the mountain that Kiya explored each morning. Draping a wet towel over Blade's forehead, he sighed with concern. "It's been six days since we all left our seperate ways. I don't think we'll be able to meet up with the rest of the group."
Only the occasional twitch, or growl came from Blade's body. Sweat beading down his forehead. Whatever the Azure Elixer was...it shouldn't have done this much to the Dinohyumon. What had Azulongmon been thinking for creating a concoction that would put the consumer into such a life and death struggle.
Inside, Blade was reliving older memories. Some great, and others he wishes he could forget. The first of which, he was as a Kotemon with his bamboo sword in hand going toe to toe with a Veemon that wore a pair of brass knuckles on each hand in a ring of dirt with his Uncle Wargreymon observing the sparring match. "Alright you two! Break it up now."
The two young fighters stepped away, both panting with exhaustion. Wargreymon placed one hand on the Kotemon, and another to the Veemon. "You know...many digimon here don't recieve a name with which to call their own. Individuality is very important to all of us. Such as your brass knuckles Veemon. Or the way you write the symbol of hope and courage on your bamboo sword Kotemon. Today, I'm going to bestow a name on each of you, that will carry you on through life."
"My dear nephew...The way you clutch at your sword, as if it were a piece of you. The heart of your existance that you could not live without. From here on, everyone in the Village will know you as Blade. Because of your adaptability to battle, and your sharp mind." The Wargreymon looked fondly at the Veemon next, rubbing his head. "As for you...I dub you Silver. For your heart is as pure as silver. When you look at a person, you're already looking for a way to counter their defenses. You won't stand for second place."
Silver looked over himself, before turning his sight to Wargreymon. "I understand why you'd name your Nephew...and it's a great name for him! But...why me?"
Wargreymon chuckled softly at that, kneeling down to meet them as close to eye level as he could. "I had a name long ago but through mistakes of my own it's become lost. Names hold power...It's as I was taught when I was your age. Through your hard work, and your drive to protect this village, you've earned a name of your own. It's a precious thing, one you should never take for granted. Besides." He took off his helmet, revealing the reptilian hide underneath and a small grin. "You are BOTH important to me. And although Blade is my Nephew, you both are as sons to me."
That caught both rookies by surprise. But rather than hug him, they grabbed the Wargreymon's helmet and slapped it back on his head. Blade was the first to respond with a smirk. "You're not one to get sappy! Strap your helmet on. I think it goes without saying that we're a tight knit team."
"I remember that..." Blade, as a Dinohyumon stepped around his younger self, though the latter failed to respond. "This was the day I earned my name...Though...why am I being shown THIS."
There was a brief flash of light and the memory dissapeared. Desperate, Blade started swimming around the darkness trying to find his Uncle, as well as Silver. Eventually, he found a small tunnel of light which he decided to follow to it's destination, cringing at the brightness of it.
This next memory was on a grassy meadow, Both Blade and Silver were sitting as Dinohyumon and ExVeemon respectively, sharpening sword and dagger. Wargreymon was nowhere to be found, aside from the sword being sharpened by Blade meticulously. For a while, neither of them spoke. After putting a small polish to his Dagger, Silver set it into it's protective sheath strapped to his left arm. "I've been chosen you know..."
"Wait...Chosen for..." Blade turned to meet his comrade who solemnly looked away. "So then the North has their selection as well?"
A nod came from Silver, who sighed, arms resting just above his knees. "Every hundred years or so eh? I'm the only Veemon that's digivolved into the ExVeemon species in that time. Everyone else became Veedramon."
Blade nodded quietly. He didn't know what to say, Silver was his last remaining comrade. At least...the last one he was really close to. "So then you'll become what...a Paildramon?"
"Aye...Me and the Stingmon chosen. It's already been decided. The Clan chief...and Lord Azulongmon have made their choice. And really...there is no other." Silver sighed, then lifted a hand and placed it over Blade's. "I don't want to leave you though. We-"
Blade shook his head, and leaned forward to kiss Silver on the lips. Smirking. "We will always be. DNA Digivolving won't change that, and our feelings won't change. It just means...I'll have to share you!"
That made Silver blush bright, before laughing. "Yeah I guess you're right..." He leaned forward, kissing Blade once more then relaxed. "You're the Guardian of our village. So much weight is on your shoulders. At least THIS way, I can help you. You never have to worry, and you'll always have me."
Outside, Kiya blinked when he noticed sweat dripping at a much faster rate over Blade's head. When he moved to clean them off however he realized it wasn't any beads of sweat, but tears streaking down the dino's face.
Almost immediately, Blade started to wake, eyes glancing wearily at his surroundings. "My body feels like it's made of lead..."
"Y-You really shouldn't move." Kiya responded quietly, helping Blade up but slowly.
"Take me to the shrine now...How long have I been asleep?" Blade asked, growling and wincing as his muscles felt like they were tearing themselves apart.
Kiya gasped, slowly helping him to the ruins of Victorygreymon's shrine. "Three day's now...We're almost out of time. But you shouldn't try doing this. Please reconsider!"
"We're out of time is exactly WHY I need to do this." Blade panted, kneeling infront of the Alter with Kiya's aid. "How can I protect the entirety of the Eastern continent if I can't finish this trial and help my comrades. I'd never be able to face Silver."
Kiya raised an eyeridge at the name. "You mentioned that name in your sleep...who is Silver?"
Blade took a deep breath as he seated himself. His muscles ripped with the strain of remaining upright. "That Imperialdramon who helped us in my home...That's Silver. We grew up together under the same roof."
"Wait...You two weren't living with your parents?" Kiya asked, incredulous to the prospect.
Shaking his head, Blade tried to steady his breathing. "After two...three years with our birth parents, everyone is handed off to an instructor who...for the remainder of their training, houses them."
Kiya's eyes narrowed a bit. "So you never knew who your parents were then..."
There was a deep throated chuckle. "I knew them. And saw them around the village. But I never spent a lot of time with them. Even my brother, Hilt, didn't get to know me aside from our sparring lessons in the village. What I saw of him except then...were when he came back from the world below with wild game."
"I just have one last question then..." Kiya sighed a bit, watching Blade close his eyes again. "When you were out of it...Silver said a few things to me. Are you both..."
The Dinohyumon did not open his eyes, but he did wiggle a bit. "A couple? It's a long story...There was this one time where Silver and I got seperated by my uncle during our training...floor caved in on us during one of our expeditions and nobody had any sort of clue where we were. SO...while we tried to look for an alternative tunnel to make it back to the village we talked. One thing led to another and well...After we took our journey's to be full fledged warriors we built a house of our own in the outskirts of the village. A couple years later he was selected to be the new goodwill ambassador for the East and North. And I was chosen to be Azulongmon's Guardian."
"So you two never really had much of a chance to settle down..." Kiya thought about this, frowning. "Your life is just one extreme to the next!"
That made Blade Laugh, he struggled to get back into his praying position. "My uncle taught us a long time ago that change...will happen regardless of what you want. Especially if you're destined for more than most. Growing up...nobody expected me to become the Lord's personal guardian, or for Silver to digivolve into the first ExVeemon in over a hundred years. Now we're the two leading authorities in Blue Chrome. NOW...let me do this. We have less than 24 hours to get back to the west...and every minute we spend talking is another wasted."
Cringing, Kiya nodded, sitting back as he watched. Suddenly, the same orange light that enveloped him the last time had wrapped itself around him. His body rippled with the sudden flow of Victorygreymon's raw data coming at him. "The fresh youngling returns..."
Kiya turned around, looking for the voice but he realized it was coming from the altar that Blade was resting in. The Statue of Victorygreymon shining ahead of him.
"I came to fulfill my promise! Azulongmon chose me eight years ago. Just two after our last encounter Lord Victorygreymon. I have trained my body and will. Carrying the demented remains and wills of my Uncle and the Smithy clan's Chief..." Blade muttered out, the crest of light shining on his shoulder.
"Hmm I can see that. Your own spirit, sets them at ease. They feed off of your own spiritual energy and you in turn...feed off of them. YOu have a great task ahead of you. I've sensed Azulongmon's passing and know of the Elixer you have consumed..."
Blade cringed, it was as if the spirit of Victorygreymon could see into his very memories. "I've taken in the elixer in full knowledge of what this means for me. I sacrifice all that I am so that my village! and my mate...would be able to live in peace!"
That got a deep chuckle from Victorygreymon, who'se very aura began to swirl around the Dinohyumon. "You came originally seeking power simply to obtain it. Now you seek it for the safety of others. In that, I will offer you the greatest gift I can. May my knowledge and wisdom serve you well and let me finally have the rest promised to me by Yggdrasil."
There was a deep throated roar, as Blade reached his hands out weakly. His body began shimmering, engulfed in a bright light that one would be blinded by at a mere glance. Inside of the light, Blade's body was already changing. His body changed into a scaly orange, a pair of mettalic armored wings appeared on his back, with Chrome digizoid armor enveloping the whole of his chest, as well as his hands, and shoulders. They started forming around his lower legs, great white claws protruding from his three toed feet. The last things to appear were his metal helmet, similar in appearance to a Wargreymon's, except two spikes protruded along the back and the horn had a glinting red finish, and a massive greatsword strapped to his back. Once the light faded, he stood infront of Kiya, reborn as Victorygreymon himself.
"Woah...the power you're releasing is...astounding!" Kiya exclaimed with a big grin.
Blade looked over his new form, then at the blades at his waist. Thankfully neither of them dissapeared in the digivolution process. "I feel...amazing. I've never felt such an overwhelming ammount of power before! And it's not setting me on my knees!" He clenched his fists and smirked. "We can win! I think we actually have a chance against the darkness now!" He started clambering out of the ruins, having to crouch down to avoid hitting his head due to his new size. "Wait till Silver finds out. Heh looks like he isn't the only Mega in our relationship anymore!"
Kiya laughed, climbing onto Blade's back carefully. "YOu definitely look more energized! But how will we get back to the west?"
"Oh...I'll get us there just watch. And hold on!!" Blade roared, before taking to the skies, and heading in the direction of the west in breakneck speed.
