Despite being confused by Sophie’s antics the crowds watching the match still cheered for another surprising upset in Team Pre-K’s favor as the mime jr was carried out of the arena by the medics. Most of the people who came to see the match didn’t expect a freshman team to even get past one sophomore, let alone two. The cheering also served to hide the long, pitiful, drawn out whimper Nicky the larvitar was making with an equally pitiful face to match it. The horrible, humiliating consequences of the bet he’d made weighing down on his head twice over now as he weakly turned to look at the weavile sitting a few seats to his right and managed to choke out a whimpered “D-double o-or n-n-nothing?” capped off with an absolutely pathetic smile of desperation. The geodude girl sitting on Dai’s other side grinned, looking eager to take Nicky up on this, before the weavile held up a claw to get her attention.
Pointing to the arena Dai directed her team to look at who Team Big Top’s next fighter was. There was a moment of silence as they watched the giant lumber over to the referee and his much smaller opponent before Dai finally spoke up in response to Nicky’s offer “No deal, we’re good.” As if those words had been his sentence of execution Nicky slumped forward in his seat, head in his hands as all interest the larvitar had in the match was gone. Gently rubbing his unresponsive best friends back to comfort him Smokey just sighed and tried to divide his focus between the match and Nicky, experience having taught him it’d be a while before the larvitar recovered from the latest pit he’d dug for himself…
At least it looked like this match would wrap up quickly now…

“The next match will be Tabitha Moreau of Team Pre-K vs Roy Bublé of Team Big Top! Are both fighters ready?”
The toxicroak referee might as well have asked if Tabitha was ready to tap dance with clefairy on the moon for what the question amount to. Staring up at the big, broad smiling Sealeo (who managed to loom over her despite standing a ways off) the gothita could feel her knees knocking. She’d burned most of her energy up in her fire-fight with Sophie and now she had to face the strongest member of Team Big Top? When he had a speed boost from Trick Room to further tip things in his favor? There was no way she could win, absolutely none. This was her first big fight as a member of Pre-K and she had to deal with this!? Panic and stress raced through her mind as she just stared up at Roy, a deerling in the headlights look on her face, before the sophomore suddenly spoke up.
“Hey, just relax okay?” the ice types deep voice pulled Tabitha’s attention up to his and washed over her with its surprisingly calming resonance as Roy continued to smile at her “Nothing we can do now by try our best, right? No need to worry about it, just give it your all okay?” Tabitha just blinked in response to this, still slightly stunned from her previous panic. The way Roy had said all that it made it rather hard to believe they were about to fight each other… or was he taking pity on her? The gothita wasn’t really sure but it seemed too genuine a sentiment to be pity, either way he was right. Even if she couldn’t win she at least had to try and do her best before she was taken down. She had some Calm Minds boosting her abilities so she should be able to get at least one good shot in even if she was exhausted. Taking a slightly shaky but deep breath, her composure regained, Tabitha took her battle position once more lifting her arms a little in preparation to attack.
“Okay, I think we’re ready now sir.” Roy commented, smiling more at Tabitha’s changed expression and battle stance as he merely shifted weight and center of gravity a little while lifting his hands up to take his own stance. Looking to Tabitha for a moment to confirm the referee nodded “Alright then… Begin!” he shouted as there was a slight circus shaped shimmer over the arena reminding everyone that Trick Room was still in place. Roy made that fact abundantly clear as he effortlessly produced five spheres of ice in his hands and, with a flick of the wrist, started juggling them in his variation of Ice Ball. Tabitha’s knees resumed knocking upon seeing the move, though in the back of her head she couldn’t help but notice he didn’t use Defense Curl first, since it was Roy’s specialty and what he’d taken out a whole team with…
But she had to at least try as the gothita mustered up all the energy she had left to pull from together into one last Shadow Ball (if only because she was too intimidated to think if another move would have been better) and let it fly! As the softball sized orb of energy flew, at what looked like a pitifully slow speed from where Tabitha was standing, before dissipating upon impact against Roy’s protruding stomach with an equally pitiful sound. Tabitha face and body slumped, energy drained completely away, as she just stared at the results of her best shot… as Roy just gave a crisp, sincere sounding comment of “Nice shot, it was a great try.” Before the first Ice Ball shot nailed Tabitha right between the eyes and the little psychic type toppled over backwards completely unconscious… her longer skirt just barely keeping whatever undergarments she wore from being exposed as she collapsed.
“Tabitha is unable to battle, Roy of Team Big Top has won the round! Will Team Pre-K’s next fighter step forward?”

“L-looks like I’m u-up chuuuuu…”
“You SURE about this Andrew? I mean… really sure? This ISN’T a good plan you know…”
“I-it’s a-all I c-could come up with P-Petie… chuuuuu… j-just do your b-best…”
Mumbling weakly as he fiddled with his hat Petie watched his Pichu team captain waddle into the arena to face… well… insurmountable odds seemed like a good way to say it, especially since the teddiursa knew what the plan was. “Pardon me Petie…” a voice suddenly snapped the teddy bear out of his gloom thoughts as he stuttered out a “Huh?” and looked up to the source. Pre-K’s miltank coach Maddie had scooted over next to him on the bench and was looking down at him curiously “But what exactly is this plan you mentioned? I’m pretty sure Andrew didn’t bring it up with me when we were talking strategy…” she asked, looking more curious than hurt that Andrew didn’t let her in on what he’d come up with.
“… probably cause he didn’t tell me about it till about an hour ago…” Petie mumbled, still messing with his hat and what he had on under it “Apparently he remembered something his dad taught him about fighting bigger mon…” Andrew’s dad Apollo being a GIANT snorlax and a pro-league veteran “from firsthand experience probably, anyway Andrew used it to come up with a plan in case we had to face Roy…” Petie finished explaining as Maddie and Sammi glanced over to Jane for conformation on this… who for once looked genuinely hurt “So that’s what he wanted to talk to you about… he didn’t tell me anything about it.” The munchlax commented, sounding almost disappointed, before pulling another candy bar out of her pocket and fully turning her attention to Petie “… so what’s this plan? Didn’t really listen when dad talked about battle stuff…” Realizing he had all of his remaining teammates attention Petie just groaned and put his head in paws before muttering an answer.
“Fine! But I’m making it clear right now that I only agreed to this plan cause we didn’t have any other ideas… here’s what Andrew came up with…”
*******************
“So you’re the captain of your team huh? Must be a lot of responsibility for you to handle.”
“Chuuuuuu… I-I manage…”
“Good for you, so don’t be so nervous okay? Lets just have a good match.”
Unlike Tabitha Roy’s gentle reassurance and tone did nothing to help Andrew’s nerves as the pichu’s gaze flickered from the sealeo, to the 4 remaining Ice Balls he was juggling (which had doubled in size), to the circus tent shaped shimmer of the Trick Room. Andrew running through everything he’d planned out before the match again as he tried to make sure he’d thought through it all. “O-okay, t-to a good match… chuuuu…” Andrew managed to squeak as he lowered into his battle position, cheeks sparking a little. His first move was the most important one here so he had to make it count. “Are both fighters ready?” the referee asked as Andrew and Roy, who hadn’t bothered to really move from his earlier stance even as he juggled his attack, nodded.
“Alright, Begin!!!”
Andrew immediately twisted his body and threw himself to the side as Roy, thanks to getting the leg up on the pichu speed wise from Trick Room, lobbed an Ice Ball at what would have been the center of Andrew’s forehead and likely been a knockout. As it stood the attack just grazed Andrew’s head lightly, making him wince in pain, before fully shattering against the arena wall. Tumbling on the ground for a moment Andrew managed to keep a bead on Roy as he came to a stop, noticing that grazing him was enough for the Ice Balls the sealeo was juggling to double in size once more… unfortunately, and launched an attack towards the sophomore. Who looked genuinely surprised as Andrew fired a Thunder Wave from his cheeks, the electricity dancing across Roy’s body slowing him down with paralysis… except for one thing…
“You do know with Trick Room this just makes me faster, right?” Roy asked, sounding honestly curious about Andrew’s attack choice as the pichu picked himself up “Well either way I did say I’d try and end these matches fast…” the sealeo’s comment barely registered with Andrew as there was a blindingly fast flash of motion and suddenly all the pichu knew was pain as he was hurled back “So don’t think too badly of me, okay? … heh, you do remind me of Patrice a bit. Must be your cute round build…” Roy mused, his 3rd Ice Ball hitting dead center this time as it crashed into Andrew’s head and sent him flying back. By now the sophomore was a skilled enough touch with this move he was almost certain that should have knocked the pichu clean out so he didn’t mind thinking aloud for a moment, only barely paying enough attention to notice Andrew had skidded to a halt at the arena wall.
Suddenly a glimmer of light caught Roy’s attention as the Sealeo was juggled the two remaining Ice Balls, which had once again doubled in size, making him turn to look with a surprised “Hmmmm?” Just in time for a cluster of sparkling stars to shoot from Andrew’s hands right at Roy, the pichu having managed to barely cling to consciousness and somehow launch a Swift attack at the same time. Roy unabashedly let out a cry of surprise and minor pain as the stars crashed into and shattered against, of all things, his legs and knees with a sound like gently breaking glass. The fat sealeo jiggled for a moment as he danced under the assault before the attack finally ran its course and he paused to catch his breath… before letting out a deep belly laugh. “Impressive! I thought for sure that’d knock you out,,, ah well, that was a good shot too. Those smarted pretty bad… sorry about this though, it’s overkill an I know it.” Roy said, his tone a mix of sounding proud of the pichu and incredibly apologetic…
As he flicked his wrist and let the 4th Ice Ball fly, the huge sphere hurting towards the prone pichu laying against the arena wall like an easy target… and crashing into the wall just above Andrew’s head as the force of the impact was enough to knock Andrew out without hurting him worse. “There, that ought to do it…” Roy said, smiling as he lightly tossed his one remaining (now HUGE) Ice Ball with one hand while brushing off his knees gingerly “Why’d he shoot my knees anyway…?” he mused to himself, just as a fizzling sound suddenly got the sealeo’s attention. Roy looked up in time to see the circus tent shaped Trick Room flicker then fade away into nothingness as he realized five turns had already passed. Doubling over and the electricity of the paralysis now coursed through him in full he managed to choke out a weak chuckle and comment.
“W-well, that explains what he was going for with Thunder Wave…”

“Andrew is unable to battle, Roy of Team Big Top has won the round!”
“So, he actually went through with it…” Sammi muttered, not bothering to listen to the rest of what the referee was saying as the medics carried her pichu leader out of the arena “He’s went through with his end of this suicidal plan… meaning YOU’RE up now…” the dratini added, glancing to Petie as the teddiursa just let out a weak whimper of affirmation. Maddie suddenly put a gentle hand on Petie’s back “Don’t worry about what’ll happen, okay Petie?” the miltank said in a reassuring manner as she watched the little normal type slip off the bench and trod into the arena like a convict going to his death sentence “Just do your best, alright?” she called after him as silence overtook Team Pre-K’s bench. The three ladies, well one lady and two girls, just sat quietly as they watched Petie toddle up to his opponent… his opponent who stood twice his height.
“… he better not screw my brother’s plan up.” Jane commented, before hopping off the bench “I’ll be with Andrew…” she added, turning to leave even as Maddie called after the munchlax, trying to get her to come back and watch the rest of the match. Sammi meanwhile just wrapped her tail around herself and grumbled. She was pretty sure they were gonna lose… she just was conflicted over the fact that she was concerned about her teammates, despite having professed that she didn’t care about them at all. Sammi was even more annoyed by that feeling than the fact she didn’t get to fight this time. Either way she was debating following Jane to check on the others…
After all even if Andrew’s plan WORKED this wasn’t gonna be a nice fight to watch…

“Well well, looks like Teddy’s little friends up next.”
“Oh dear, that’s not good… I hope Roy doesn’t hurt him…”
“Maybe you should cover Cody’s eyes, the teddy bear is his playmate too right~?”
Cody wasn’t even bothering to pay attention to who said what as he sat on his cousin Vanessa’s lap, he two friends (a braixen and a litleo) on either side of them. The babyish looking growlithe hadn’t even planned to come to Pre-K and Big Top’s match at all in the first place. He’d felt way too guilty over what he’d done with Petie and Teddy to show up… but Vanessa had found him and dragged him here (well more specifically led him here by the paw like a toddler) to “help cheer on Teddy and your friend Petie” or something like that. By now Cody’s emotions were so conflicted he didn’t have the energy to cheer anyone on or any idea who he was supposed to be cheering for.
“You gonna be okay watching this Cody?” Vanessa asked, cuddling the diaper puppy closer as if trying to reassure him. Usually Cody would tell her off for babying him like this but he wasn’t up for it either. He wanted Team Pre-K to win cause they were his friends, especially Petie & Jules, but he also wanted Team Big Top to win cause his cousin was on that team. He wanted Teddy to get a chance to fight cause he needed the practice and deserved a chance to prove himself but he was terrified that if Cody fought then he might fight Petie and he didn’t want that... especially with how mad Teddy had been about what he’d told the teddiursa. He also wanted his friends in Pre-K to do well, but if Petie ended up fighting Teddy then what would happen if Petie went easy on him like Cody asked? The puppy whined, his head too full of conflicted emotions.
“Does he need a change?” one of Vanessa’s friends asked, Cody wasn’t really paying attention to which one but it might have been the litleo. “He’s probably just worried about his friend is all.” The other friend, glancing over Cody say it was the braixen this time confirming the first one had been the litleo, said as Vanessa just cuddled Cody close and patted his head reassuringly… which did nothing to sooth the conflicted puppy. To be honest he’d rather be playing house (aka playing baby) with his little sister Arya somewhere public like the park than be here watching this. His mood didn’t improve when the bubbly litleo girl pointed and exclaimed.
“Oh, they’re about to start!”
****************************
“Looks like you, ow, the last fighter for your team.”
“Y-yeah…”
“Don’t worry about it okay? You guys did fine, just give it your best shot.”
“Right…”
Petie wasn’t even really bothering to listen to what Roy was saying as he adjusted his hat once more and got into position, knees bent and arms at his side to be ready to sprint rather than his normal fighting pose, and waited for the ref to start the match. It was a disturbing feeling… he was so utterly nervous his senses were sharper than they’d ever been before and it was making it incredibly hard to focus. He could hear the general murmur of the crowd, disappointment at this anti-climax ending mixed with his sister and some friends cheering him on, the rhythmic sound of Roy lightly tossing the single, huge remaining Ice Ball he had left, his remaining teammates talking about something on the bench… it was overwhelming to the point he badly wanted to just give up and cry like the baby he looked like. Mentally slip away and regress where the pressure couldn’t reach him… but his team was counting on him so he couldn’t No matter how badly he wanted to or was sure he was going to mess up he had to at least try.
Petie’s head was so full he was barely aware when he nodded to the referee’s question of “Are both fighters ready?” but he definitely heard it when the toxicroak shouted out “Begin!” The teddiursa took off like he’d heard a gunshot and threw himself into a headlong sprint at Roy as the sealeo, suffering under paralysis and without the Trick Room speed boost, tried to take aim at Petie with the last Ice Ball. The sophomore was more than a little surprise though when Petie skidded to a stop more-or-less right on top of Roy’s feet and began madly clawing at the Sealeo’s knees with Fury Swipes. Roy made small noises of pain and discomfort since his knees were still aching from Andrew’s Swift earlier as he tried to dance back and maneuver himself where he could bring the last Ice Ball down on the teddiursa…
As Petie had none of it, staying right under Roy’s protruding stomach and on top of the sealeo’s feet making any attempts to aim the giant ice sphere at him the same as Roy slamming the attack into his own crotch. His Fury Attack spent Petie opted to use Feint Attack next, dark energy swirling around his chubby little fist as he punched one of Roy’s knees as hard as he could… then immediately scurried backwards as it buckled under the stress. “GAH! REGICE CHIPS!” Roy grunted in pain through clenched teeth, dropping the last Ice Ball (which shattered against the floor), as his leg gave out from under him making him tumble forward and just barely stop himself short from completely falling over. Petie meanwhile had scurried back and to the left, managing to avoid both the dropped ice ball and Roy falling forward, as the sealeo kneeled over.
Stunned that Andrew’s plan had somehow worked so far, and a bit baffled by Roy’s choice in exclamation, Petie sat there on his padded bottom for a moment and stared at the sealeo. Roy was down on one knee bracing himself with one arm while his other leg, the one Petie hadn’t gotten around to punching yet, looked fairly shaky as well. Suddenly Petie remembered part two of Andrew’s strategy… which didn’t involve sitting next to his opponent and being an easy target. Scrambling, and doing more than a bit of undignified crawling, Petie moved to the second safe spot Andrew had mentioned. The first had been right on top of a much larger opponent’s feet since, as long as they don’t excel at footwork, it’s really hard to attack something that close to you…
The second was right behind them in the middle of their back. “H-hey! Get back here!” Roy called as Petie crawled behind him. Hearing the groan of Roy’s shifting girth as the sophomore tried to turn around, even with his hurt legs, to get a bead on him Petie scrambled to his feet and opted to start clawing at Roy’s back with Fury Swipes instead of catching his breath. Another surprised exclamation of pain confirmed that Roy hadn’t seen Andrew’s plan coming, even if it was Petie who was putting it into practice. Bigger than you, slower than you, and really heavy, Andrew had apparently learned from his father that when an opponent is all those things then going after their legs, hampering their mobility, and hiding where they can’t get at you without constant repositioning was a workable tactic. It wore the larger mon down and kept them from landing solid blows on you… it just failed if they had anyway consistent way of getting to you at all being it reach, special attacks, or anything else.
Andrew had apparently worked out that Roy didn’t have any special attacks he could launch without taking aim at the target first, or something like that it’d been hard to understand the pichu through his squeaking, meaning if he couldn’t see his opponent he couldn’t attack them. Which seemed to ring true as Petie’s Feint Attack punched the sealeo in the middle of the back, the larger mon groaned in discomfort as he struggled to get up or turn around to get at the teddiursa. Petie meanwhile was dancing back and forth doing everything to keep right in the middle of Roy’s back, where the sealeo couldn’t see him, as he pounded on the ice type as hard as he could… which felt distressingly more and more like he was trying to beat a piece of sturdy furniture into submission with his bare paws for what little damage he was doing.
Mentally Petie tried to count how many times he could use his attacks before he’d be too exhausted to keep fighting, but with his heart pounding as fast as it was he just didn’t have the brain power available to make that calculation. As he finished his latest set of Fury Swipes against Roy’s back to no visible damage before the sealeo’s groaning Petie mentally cringed since he only had one option available. One option he HATED more than anything else for being humiliating. The teddiursa didn’t take humiliation well, hence why he worked so hard to hide his need of diapers from the general public of the school, and despite Rose attempts to help him get over it he still cringed at the idea of people seeing him use this move… but the idea of losing the match without doing his all after Andrew’s sacrifice play felt like it would be the harder thing to live with.
Taking a deep breath and flexing his arm Petie felt the tingly, flowing feeling he got whenever he used this move as the audience murmured in confusion. Petie had stopped his assault for a moment and, though it was hard to tell with his loose Pre-K uniform, looked like he was inflating slightly. Petie groaned softly, his freshly chubby cheeks jiggling a little, as he finished Bulk-Up and could feel all his baby fat having returned. The move was SUPPOSED to increase muscle mass to make for stronger attack and sturdier defense… buuuuuut since Petie had tried to be “cool” and learn it on his own he’d flubbed it in a fairly unique way. Instead it seemed to bring all his baby fat back making him look even more like a toddler than before… he’d been so embarrassed Petie hadn’t even realized it HAD worked as intended till some of his friends (specifically Taiho and Nicolas & Nicole from the dojo) made him practice with it and realize that, somehow, his muscles had gotten sturdier under the soft flab…
As a shadow falling over the chubbier teddy snapped him out of his thoughts. Petie squealed and hurled his plump body to the side just as Roy crashed down hard where’d been a second ago with a backwards, flop styled Body Slam. The sealeo let out a groan of pain as he lay there flat on his back… not that Petie was much better as the teddiursa’s desperate dive had ended up with him facedown in the dirt, rump stuck up in the air almost comically with only a mix of baggy shorts and the idea it was Bulk-Ups fault keeping the curve of the diapers he wore underneath from being obvious.
******************
Pain shooting through his back now joined the pain shooting through his knees as Roy groaned, recognizing that his improvised alternate take on Body Slam had done some recoil damage to him… especially since his little opponent had been pounding and scratching away at his back before he’d slammed it into the ground. Speaking of the little guy though Roy kept his mind focused on the match despite the pain and tried to sit up to locate the freshmen… only managing to lift his head half a foot up before his back protested and told him off for trying. Between the repeated small amounts of damage the two kids had done to his legs and back coupled with the annoying paralysis Roy’s mobility was shot. Thudding back down Roy considered his options for a moment… before hearing light noise and scuffling nearby on his left mixed in with a squeaky, childish cough. Meaning he’d found his opponent.
Since sitting up normally was a no go Roy opted for plan F and threw his considerable weight to one side, rolling himself over onto his stomach. His knees wouldn’t be good enough to get up properly from this position without some considerable effort… but that wasn’t the sealeo’s goal. Propping himself up on his arms Roy looked for Petie and upon spotting the teddiursa, only sparing a moment to wonder how he suddenly put on weight like Andrew or Patrice and the fact it worked for the little one, opened his mouth to prep an Aurora Beam. Plan F, plan feral… since Roy couldn’t stand and launch his attacks at the moment he’d have to settle for launching them like this instead. Letting the multi-colored ice attack fly Roy wondered for a moment why Petie’s pants looked oddly bulgy, bringing to mind Roy’s cousin Patrice during his toddler days, as the teddiursa let out a high pitched squeak and threw himself butt first out of the beams way.
Roy groaned a little, letting Petie scramble a bit away as the paralysis kicked in. The sealeo was doing his best to hide the fact firing from this posture put painful pressure on his neck, particularly for his attacks recoil, and was wearing his arms down since they were supporting his full weight. Shaking his head to try and clear it as soon as the paralysis stopped for the moment Roy just charged another Aurora Beam. Despite the painful stiffness of the status effect Roy shifting on his arms to keep Petie in his sights. Meanwhile the teddiursa scrambled, crawled, and stumbled to his feet before trying to run, taking advantage of Roy’s paralysis and the fact Roy was taking longer to charge his attack this time. On the other hand Roy was almost absolutely certain Petie had no idea what the longer charge time for the attack meant. Sure enough the teddy let out a surprised squeal as Roy launched the Auroroa Beam… and held it, twisting his head to the left to chase his opponent down with the sustained attack. Since Petie had barely avoided it like before Roy didn’t need to sustain it look before it struck home and there was a multi-colored blast… followed by a flying freshmen thudding into the wall, the (admittedly cute, at least in Roy’s opinion) yellow hat Petie had been wearing fluttering down next to him.
Being a special attack centric fighter, and stronger than average in that regard, with a move that got same-type bonus damage Roy felt more than confident that even if the Aurora Beam (and the impact afterwards) hadn’t managed to take Petie out the teddy wouldn’t be in any hurry to get up again. Meaning Roy could finally try and get to his feet himself. Groaning again from the paralysis, the pain in his knees, his back, and now his neck the sealeo struggled to get his legs under him and lift his considerable bodyweight up. His buckling knees and shortness of breath, along with that unpleasant tingling that told him another paralysis spell was coming soon, were just proof to the sophomore about how well planned out those boy’s attempt to take him down had been. It was a pretty impressive team effort for freshmen… he’d have to remember to congratulate them in person when he could. Then maybe invite them on a little “playdate” with his cousin Patrice and maybe Teddy if Vanessa stopped coddling the boy enough to let him…
It was when he chuckled a little at his own attempt at a joke that Roy noticed an unfamiliar glow coming from where Petie had landed. Running the possibilities through his head before he even bothered to look it only took him a moment to realize what was happening when he laid eyes on the teddiursa. A Focus Sash was tightly tied around Petie’s head, previously hidden by his cap and now exposed, and was glowing softly as the young boy had a surprisingly peaceful look on his face, his chubby stomach rising and falling steadily in peaceful slumber as his body was glowing and the battered look he had slowly faded away. Hidden Focus Sash to prevent a one hit knock out and Rest to recover fully from that damage. Roy couldn’t help but feel a touch embarrassed he’d sold his opponent short like that… especially since he’d committed so much effort into getting back to his feet that he couldn’t take advantage of the opening Rest presented. Roy admitted he probably looked like a fool to the people watching this match… though the sealeo did hope that if his cousin Patrice WAS in the audience he was paying attention and taking notes on the boy’s tactics and Roy’s own mistakes. To learn from them in future matches…
A thought that was interrupted by Petie letting out a hearty Snore attack, making Roy groan and buckle, struggling to stay standing.
********************
In the stands a small azurill boy frowned as he watched the match. The short, chubby, and toddlerish looking normal type looked like a misplaced member of Team Pre-K appearance wise, even if his clothing choice was fairly plain his looks made it seen more toddlerish, as he sat in the front row of the bleacher. His large tail bulb sitting next to him and taking up as much space, if not more, that the azurill did as it jiggling lightly as the boy fidgeted were he sat. Patrice, Roy’s azurill cousin, sighed softly and slumped a little in his seat as his dangling feet, his short stature insuring they didn’t reach the floor from where he sat, kicked idly. After a moment more of watching the fight Patrice sighed, a glum expression on his chubby face, and placed his head in his hands. His gaze was directed at the ground instead of the match like the rest of the audience as he didn’t seem to be paying attention to what was going on around him anymore… a fact proven as a short, chubby, big bottomed, and babyish looking pumpkaboo girl slipped her way through the crowd to plop her butt down on top of Patrice’s tail like a beanbag chair.
The azurill made no acknowledgement of her presence though as he continued to sit there with his head in his hands looking down. He didn’t bother to respond even as she chirped out a cheerful “Hi Patrice~” to the normal type in a bouncy, childish voice with more than a little hint of affection in it. Her beaming smile faulted for a moment at his silence before she bounced up into the air, using his tail like a squishy trampoline, and seemed to hang there, her ghost type nature allowing her to hover briefly. The pumpkaboo proceeded to nudge Patrice’s tail bulb out of the way with her foot before plopping back down on the bench, as if the string holding her up in the air had been cut, so she was now properly sitting next to Patrice. Who still refused to acknowledge her prompting a deeper frown from the ghost before she threw her arms around the azurill in a hug “Alright…” she said, her voice a slightly more normal pitch with a touch of concern in it instead of affection “You didn’t run and you didn’t whimper, what’s wrong?”
Again there was no response from Patrice as the ghost girl sat there hugging him for about a minute before her cheeks puffed out and a look of annoyance appeared on her face. The following flurry of motion only went unnoticed by the crowd at large thanks to the match since it happened just as Roy started blasting Aurora Beams at Petie. Otherwise it’d been hard for them to miss a pumpkaboo girl pouncing an azurill boy and sitting on his stomach as she pinned him flat on his back against the bleachers and proceeded to tickle him mercilessly. “T-T-Terri!! Heeheheheehee!” Patrice squeaked through his giggles, finally acknowledging her presence as she tickled him silly “S-stoppit! Heeheheeheehehehee! P-pleeeeaseheheeheehe!” he squealed, giggling helplessly as all four limbs flailed in a desperate attempt to get out from under the ghost type.
“Only if you tell me why you’re so down and why you were ignoring me~” the pumpkaboo chirped sounding chipper as could be as she was back to using her more childish sound voice “Or else I’ll tickle you till you have an accident~” her cheerful tone never faltering despite the threat and the fact the happy, smiling expression on her face was obviously faked. It was about a minute of giggles and helpless pleading before Patrice finally managed to squeak out O-okay! OKAY!” his voice hitting an adorable kindergartner squealing pitch thanks to all the giggling “I-I’ll t-tell you! I’ll tell!” he squealed, as finally the tickling stopped leaving him to pant for breath. He needed to get air back into his lungs… or try to as there was one problem preventing that. “P-please get off of me…” he whimpered weakly since Terri still had her large posterior parked right on top of him. A giggle and stuck out tongue was her response but she hopped up off him and defied gravity again to float to the side and plop back down on the bleach next to him
After spending about a minute panting for breath and stopping the residual giggling Patrice finally tried to sit back up. The normal type struggled for a moment before finally managing, having to kick his legs cutely to do it due to how awkward his position was and how uncomfortably close Terri was sitting. The little ghost just giggled and smiled at him, sitting and lightly kicking her legs cutely before scooting closer to the azurill… which was pretty normal from what little he knew of her. Due to past run-ins with Terri Patrice had figured out that the pumpkaboo either had no respect or no awareness of the concept of “personal space” since she’d been ambushing him with unwanted affection for a while now. As silly as the thought sounded in his head the girl seemed to have a crush on him and was apparently handling it with all the grace of a kindergartner and Pepe-le-Pew rolled into one. At the very least she’d chased him through the halls like the cartoon stunky more than once. “So, you gonna tell me why you were so mopey now~?” the ghost type chirped, using her childish sounding voice again “Or do I need to sit on you and tickle you again~?” she added, somehow managing to scoot even closer to Patrice as the azurill reflexively tried to scoot further away from her along the bleachers… only to find one of Terri’s chubby hands was wrapped firmly around the black, thin part of his tail making escape impossible.
Well and trapped Patrice sighed as he thought about how to answer Terri’s question, mind already occupied with his feelings about the match making it difficult for him. Finally after some consideration he looked up to the pumpkaboo answered "...I think this match is unfair." As Terri tilted her head a little, the oversized hair curl over on her forehead bobbing a little with the motion "Unfair how? Do you mean cause it's tiny freshmen against..." she started to ask, pausing to look at the ongoing match for a moment for conformation on her next words before continuing "Really big sophomores or cause of something else?" Too out of it to bother questioning why Terri was acting so… sane and rational with her questions Patrice just pointed out towards Roy as the sealeo rolled over and pulled himself up on his arms.
"Him. If you ask me, he's far from giving his all.” The azurill said, his tone a mix of disappointment and depression “Team Pre-K has fought to the best of their abilities and taken big risks to go against all odds, but what's the point when they're met with kiddie gloves?” he paused for emphasis as if waiting for Terri to reply but pointed back towards Roy and continued before she could “Especially him, he went from steamrolling same grade teams to...whatever that is supposed to be...I think he's pretending to be a feral or something...it's embarrassing to see, shows how little he thinks of either battling or the other team..." Patrice trailed off, sitting there with his head down glumly staring at his own feet again till Terri placed a hand on his shoulder to get his attention.
"... Andrew and Petie did kinda beat up on his knees, dunno if he can stand up right now..." she said once Patrice lifted his head a little look at her, before leaning back and kicking her legs a little as she added "Also do you know him? You kinda sounded like you knew him." Again not registering the intelligent observation and the more reasonable tone coming from the pumpkaboo Patrice just nodded "Yeah, he's my cousin...and he left them open in first place, wouldn't be the first time he turns an injury into a joke...used to do it when we were little to keep me from worrying." The azurill could remember clearly several years back, when Roy was still a spheal and Patrice was even smaller than now, how his cousin tended to joke around and treat their sparring more like play time than anything serious… sure Roy had stopped when they both got older but still…
"Maybe... did kinda look like they did some real damage, my big sis lectured me about damage to the legs and how it can mess you up..." Terri said, trailing off slightly as Patrice looked up (a little surprised since he didn’t know she had a sister) in time to see her shrug and ask "Did you not like the rest of the match either?" That got a momentary pause from the normal type before he shook his head firmly "...I liked what Pre-K has been doing.” he said, thinking back on what he’d watched and what he knew of his cousin’s team “On the side of Big Top, Terrence tried hard to work with his new body, did you know he evolved not too long ago?” the head shake from pumpkaboo confirmed she hadn’t as Patrice continued, actually smiling a little “That first match was really good! Then came Sophie...she's the queen of wasting time and chances and still managed to play her cards right for her usual setup. And for a moment I actually hoped Roly would get serious...then he started chucking iceballs like it was a game in the snow..." he trailed off again as his smile fell and he slumped.
"... he did kinda plow through two of them pretty easily... so you're rooting for Pre-K then?" Terri asked, giggling a little and using her childish voice again as she lightly poked his side and commented "You do look like you could be a member... you'd be adorable in that uniform~" Patrice didn’t even bother looking up as he blandly said "...one worn out and out of energy, and Andrew got hit with what was basically an ice explosion. If Roly was serious he would've tried to dodge and aim better and the match would likely be over already." There was a brief pause as the second part of what Terri had said finally registered with the azurill as he blushed and fidgeted a little "and um..I don't think I'd be able to wear that like it's no big deal, no offense but it's pretty embarrassing." Terri just giggled, leaning back and kicking her legs again in a deliberate attempt to look cute and childish "Still think you'd look adorable in it~”
There was a pause as she tilted her head as if thinking before asking in an unsure tone “And can he really dodge that well? He looks kinda... um... big, fat, and slow without Trick Room helping him, no offense." There was another pause before she added "Also you spar with him?" as if trying to cover up the earlier question. Patrice wasn’t offended… but he still groaned "But he WAS under Trick Room's effect, he could have repelled those attacks even without moving all that much.” The azurill just shook his head in disappointment “He's just like that when we practice, lets me attack instead of forcing me to find an opening on my own. That was okay when I was learning the basics, not now. And definitely not in an actual match." Patrice said firmly before blushing some more and putting his head in his heads "I wish he could get a wakeup call, even if it cost him the fight." He says, finally admitting it and feeling a bit guilty over the whole sentiment.
He sat there, seeing nothing but the palms of his chubby blue hands, for a moment before he felt Terri pat his back comfortingly before speaking up "Well… with the trick Petie just pulled you might get your wish..." she said, as Patrice glanced up out of curiosity just in time to see Petie’s revealed Focus Sash and Rest combo while Terri added "And Roly huh?" bringing up the nickname Patrice had been using to refer to Roy with. A comment that Patrice completely missed as he watched Petie’s hidden hold item save him from the knock out and Snore nearly knock Roy back down on his belly, the azurill mouth hanging open in surprise at the whole thing. Which made it easy for Terri to get away with what she did next as he could hear her shuffling around for something as she spoke "Well, maybe he's going easy on them cause they remind him of his adorably baby cousin Poly~" she said just before popping something right in Patrice’s open mouth.
To his surprise that something turned out to be an exceptionally large version of a baby’s pacifier as Terri giggled and wrapped her arms around him in another hug, now acting like she normally did, before chirping "Either way lets see what happens~ We can cheer the baby teddy on~" Patrice found his smooth, chubby blue cheeks getting hot with blush again as he mumbled around the pacifier "...dun really want him to lose...just to understand…" making it fall out as he finished the sentence. As Terri easily caught it, popped it back in his mouth before he had time to protest, and giggled as she rubbed cheeks with him… the azurill just blushing and whining as he sat there, keeping what little dignity he had by refusing to suck the baby pacifier even if he didn’t spit it out. Why bother if Terri would just keep popping it back in anyway?
The question of where she actually GOT the pacifier didn’t occur to Patrice as his attention was pulled back to the arena and the match that was happening.
*************************
As a second Snore escaped the sleeping Teddiursa, the noise huge and echoing for such a small point of origin, Roy groaned and swayed as his knees visibly shook trying to hold him up threatening to collapse out from under him at any time. Despite this the sealeo opened his mouth, a glow forming inside showing he was prepping an attack… an attack that never came to pass as a yellow flash of electricity crackled over him and his body seized up from paralysis kicking in at the worst possible moment. Roy tumbled forward, a bit like a felled tree due to his stiffened body, and crashed face-first into the ground since he couldn’t move fast enough to do anything to cushion his fall. It produced an impressive THUD noise throughout the arena… enough to make the sleeping teddiursa sprawled against the wall groan and blink his eyes open, which were visibly blurred from just having woken.
Face first in the dirt Roy was in no position to take advantage of Petie’s confusion though as he groaned and tried to make his body move while Petie unsteadily got to his feet, shaking his head to try and clear it. Finally Roy managed to prop himself up on one arm and let fly an Aurora Beam, the flashing beam of multicolored light apparently being just the thing to snap Petie back to awareness as he squeaked and dove out of the way. There was a flurry of motion from the chubby teddiursa as he scrambled, stumbling and crawling as he went, along the edges of the arena as fast as he could trying to get out of Roy’s line of sight… which only served to highlight the lack of motion from Roy as he struggled and propped himself up on his other arms, breathing heavily as he had his eyes shut as if focusing on something.
The something turning out to be Aqua Ring as the sealeo’s body glowed softly and a similar glow appeared around him like water drops suspended mid-air… before most of the the drops formed together into a spinning, glowing ring of water around Roy’s midsection like a hula-hoop. As if energized by the water flow Roy hoisted himself to his feet and held his arms up even as he teetered back and forth on his unstable legs. The rest of the droplets pulled together and formed two more rings, one on each arm, spinning as if he was performing a juggling act. With a flick of his wrists Roy sent the rings over his head and sliding down his body to join the first until all three rings were spinning around his legs, the soft blue healing glow they produced focusing on that area.
Which was just about the time Petie slugged him hard in the side of his knee from behind with a Feint Attack, causing Roy’s leg to go at a funny angle for a moment while the sealeo let out a muffled, pained sound just as that leg gave out from under him. Crumbling down on one knee Roy managed to hold himself up by bracing against his less-damaged leg and holding that pose… leaving Petie free to scratch away at his unprotected back with Fury Swipes. Pumping his chubby arms furiously the desperation was obvious on the teddiursa’s face as he tried to get SOME visible result to confirm he was doing damage to the sophomore… as a splash of something wet against his leg distracted him from his attack. Glancing down he saw the Aqua Rings, which he’d been too focused to pay attention to earlier, had somehow shrunk down to less than half their original size and were now spinning around Roy’s knees, two for the badly injured one and one for the one that hadn’t been attacked as much. The briefly perplexed look on Petie’s face meant he had no idea WHY they were down their… which was followed by the horrified look of realization as he finally noticed the blue healing glow they provided was now focused on Roy’s knees. Meaning he was trying to heal them over the rest of his body, and if he healed them he’d have his mobility back… which would be the end of the match for the small freshman.
All dignity cast aside Petie threw his arms to the side and flexed his arms once more as he used Bulk Up again. It was fortunate Petie’s Pre-K uniform was made a little loose and very stretchy as another layer of baby fat, hopefully over a layer of gained muscle, joined the chub that was already there. Petie now looked like a caricature of a fat and overly spoiled 3 year old being sent to daycare in a uniform that was a size too small for him. Fortunately the rounded, chubby baby bulging everywhere else helped mask the bulge of his diaper as the extra layer of fat pushed it out to fill up the formerly loose shorts… luckily Cuddlebutts was made extra stretchy and durable as well. Ignoring the heavy, sluggish feeling of the extra fat Petie flailed his chubbier arms desperately as he unleashed another Fury Swipes upon Roy’s back… and tried not to drool since the extra cheek fat was making it hard to keep his mouth closed and not in the suckling “baby wants baba” position.
Luckily this time Roy did react, seizing up in pain and letting out a cry as Petie clawed at the small of his back. Finally getting conformation he was doing damage Petie slugged the sealeo as hard as he could in the side with a Feint Attack, feeling it sink into the ice types Thick Fat before hopping (as much as he could with his current bulk) to the other side and doing the same. Following up with another Fury Swipes on Roy’s back… as he finally noticed Roy wasn’t attacking and the noises had stopped even as he crumpled slightly in pain with each blow. He also noticed the odd sound he was hearing which called to mind something like when a character was charging an energy attack in one of the shonen animes he liked to watch. Once again horrified realization crossed Petie face but this time it was far too late to act as Roy turned his head as far as he could to the side and blasted the ground next to them with the Aurora Beam he’d been charging through the last few attacks.
The resulting rainbow colored explosion was impressive enough some of the audience had to cover their eyes as Roy and Petie temporarily vanished in the blast. They reappeared as the light died down, Roy sprawled on his side in a painful looking position but no worse for the wear than before thanks to Ice resistance and Thick Fat shielding him from the brunt of the blast. Meanwhile Petie was sprawled facedown in a painful looking heap a ways away from Roy with his fur visibly dirtied and steaming slightly from the blast. The toxicroak ref was on them in a second, standing near the two as he eyed both carefully and gauged whether or not they could get up and continue the match. Finally after several tense seconds there was a groan… a high pitched one as Petie clumsily rolled over, bulging chubby tummy heaving up and down as he lay there flat on his back. A moment later Roy groaned as well but the large sealeo seemed to be struggling to move, his landing apparently having messed him up worse than before.
While Roy struggled Petie’s breathing slowed down to a more steady, even pace as his face relaxed a little from the pained expression he’d been wearing… as the glow from Rest surrounded him, the teddiursa’s slightly open mouth (due to the chubby cheeks) sucking on empty air as he napped. By now Roy had mostly managed to roll over, having apparently injured his arm some in the landing leaving him with only one full strength limb, and was clumsily squirming as he repositioned himself to try and get sight of Petie. Wincing as he was hit by the normal types Snore Roy still managed to use his one good arm to prop himself up just enough to open his mouth and take aim as a familiar glow appeared in the sealeo’s maw. Sure enough another Aurora Beam flew and the multicolored blast found its target as it exploded on impact and sent Petie flying through the air like a stuffed toy thrown by a toddler in a tantrum. Panting Roy followed the teddiursa’s trajectory all the way to the ground as Petie crashed tummy first into the ground and laid there, fur dirtied and slightly burned again with fresh steam rising from him…
As another Snore escaped the tiny freshman, Roy wincing and groaning in pain as his arm slipped out from under him and he thudded to the ground lightly. Looking at the teddiursa he was 100% certain he could knock Petie out with his next attack if he could just get it off. Struggling to prop himself back up Roy’s legs spasming as he tried to get them under him properly support some of his weight, his arm straining at having to support his entire bulk again. His breathing was erratic as he tried to call up all the energy he had left, gathering it together in his throat as he could feel Brine starting to form. All he had to do was launch that attack and that would be the match. It was a broad enough spray of water he’d be able to hit the teddiursa even if Petie tried to dodge and the hurt state the freshman was in meant it’d deal double damage. Opening his mouth once more Roy could hear the gurgling sound of the attack building and taste the salt water as he focused his slightly blurred gaze of Petie, as he saw the kid struggle up to a crawling position having woken up from Rest.
Preparing to launch Brine just as Petie brought his head up and went wide eyed at seeing him Roy took a breath… and promptly choked as paralysis kicked back in. Having forgotten about it with all the other pain Roy didn’t have time to brace himself as he stiffened up and his breathing went unsteady… breaking his concentration and ruining Brine as Roy collapsed, coughing and heaving as he choked on the salty water that had been his attack. Sputtering and coughing up the water Roy tried to keep from choking into unconsciousness as his whole body heaved and spasmed heavily. He could feel himself trying to black out since he’d called up all the power he’d had left for that attack and with it ruined the tank was completely running on empty. Collapsing unceremonious in a heap, salty water he’d choked up pooling around him, the sealeo wheezed and gasped, panting heavily as he managed to barely choke out two words just loud enough for the referee to hear them.
“I…… give…”
Still being near the fightings the toxicroak heard and just nodded before announced the result “Roy has surrendered, Petie of Team Pre-K has won the round!” but paused instead of asking for the next fighter from Big Top to step forward, to try and allow the standby team a chance to get Roy out of the arena and clean up some of the mess left from the explosions. “T-that was a good match…” Roy wheezed out, breathing more stable even as he was hoisted onto a stretcher since he couldn’t move “It w-was a pleasure fighting you…” he continued, trying to talk to Petie as he tried to focus his fading gaze on the teddiursa… who was lying face down on the ground again. “I-I’d offer you a c-congratulator handshake but I c-can’t really move now…” he muttered, only for the referee to cut in.
“Save your breath.” The toxicroak said, microphone lowered so it was just between him and Roy “The kid used Rest again the moment he saw you charging that move.” A reveal that made Roy blink in surprise as he watched the poison type walk over to the nurse nudging Petie, the ref muttering about having to wake the teddiursa up before he started launching Snore at random targets. His vision fading as he felt the stretcher he was on being lifted and carried Roy’s last thoughts were whether Teddy was ready for the match and wishing his little teammate good luck… and a fleeting thought about hoping Patrice hadn’t seen him choke on his last attack just before the sealeo drifted off to unconsciousness with the sound of the referee’s next announcement just barely registering with him.
“Will Team Big Tops last fighter step forward!”

Team Pre-K vs Team Big Top
Part 4

****************************
