One of the 14 elemental runes of Ceal.
The Haerinero Rune represents the element most frequently associated with shadow. Haerinero can be associated with darkness, secrets, cover and sacrifice.
The Haerinero Rune consists of a crescent with the horns pointing downwards and connected by straight lines to the center of the inner curved boundary line. A small circle is inscribed into the space between the straight lines. This rune only has a single axis of symmetry.
Haerinero is often associated with the abstract concept of evil. This is a common misunderstanding, which can partially be traced back to the zealous activities of disciples of Lyra. In itself, Haerinero is as much a part of the element sphere as any other element, and is neither good or evil, but can be used - or abused - for both. In fact, the veiling capabilities of Haerinero are a cornerstone of maany societies, promoting values such as privacy and the right to have secrets.
Another explanation is the need for sacrifice when using Haerinero. Summed up, Haerinero is quite powerful, but actively using it inflicts feedback damage on the Iserialogist. This phenomenon has not been fully understood yet. The mundane assumption that Haerinero consumes the Iserialogist's life energy to get additional power, however, has long since been proven wrong: The feedback damage occurs only after the actual Iserialogy has taken effect. Religious factions often see this as a form of peanance or retribution, while philosophers tend to consider it a mechanism to discourage people from using this element except under the most dire circumstances.
