I nearly missed the small figures in the images if you hadn't included that link. Up in Alaska, there are places along the shores of Prince William Sound and near Anchorage that look like this forest. The 1963 earthquake just about leveled Anchorage and Seward and wiped out Valdez. There are areas of forest where the ground sank 15-25 feet. As a result the trees were now exposed to salt water. It killed of thousands of trees and the bare, naked trunks still stand to this day.
